Peterborough Museum and Archives is re-opening to the public on a by-appointment basis to support physical distancing by visitors starting Monday, July 6, 2020.

In addition to requiring appointments for visitors, the museum has temporarily removed interactive activities that were in the exhibits, put in place enhanced cleaning protocols, and is making hand sanitizer available for visitors as part of its new measures for the safety of visitors and staff.

“Peterborough Museum and Archives staff are excited to welcome visitors back into the museum to share its exhibits and programs that reflect the history of our community,” said Councillor Keith Riel, the Chair of City Council’s Arts, Culture, and Heritage Portfolio.

“While we’ve been eager to re-open, the safety and wellbeing of visitors and staff remains our priority. We’re taking the necessary measures to allow us to re-open the museum to the community in a safe and responsible manner.”

The museum has more than 45,000 objects in its artifact collections. To see a listing of current and upcoming exhibits, please visit www.peterborough.ca/museum.

To make an appointment to visit the museum at 300 Hunter St. E., call 705-743-5180 during the museum’s regular hours:
• Monday to Friday – 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
• Sunday and holidays – noon to 5 p.m.
• Saturday – closed

Only one visitor or group will be allowed into the museum at a time, for exclusive access to the exhibits, during an assigned time slot. Groups can include up to 10 people. Each time slot is 50 minutes.

The museum asks that cancellations for visits be made at least one hour before the scheduled visit.
Between each visit, staff will clean high-touch surfaces to prepare for the next visitor or group.

An online booking system is expected be available in August as another way for people to reserve their time slot to visit the museum.

There is no admission fee to visit the museum; however, the suggested donation is $10 per family or group. Debit and credit card are preferred methods for donations and purchases.

Guided tours and audio tours are currently not being offered.
