Darling Insurance and Sentinel Risk Insurance Raise $51,000 for Easter Seals Through Charity Golf Tournaments

After hitting the links from two charity golf tournaments, Darling Insurance and Sentinel Risk Insurance raised and donated $51,000 for Easter Seals, announced on Thursday.

The proceeds help Easter Seals to provide programs and services for children and youth with physical disabilities in Ontario. Their programs and services include access to mobility equipment, financial assistance for camp programs and educational support for children with disabilities.

This donation will go a long way in helping children and families across Ontario.”

Sentinel Risk Insurance Group and Darling Insurance Donate $20,000 to Food For Kids From Fundraising Golf Tournament

Peterborough Food for Kids and Kawartha Lakes Food for Kids walk away with $10,000 each in a donation from Sentinel Risk Insurance Group and Darling Insurance announced on Wednesday afternoon.

The funds were raised from an annual golf tournament hosted by both insurance companies held at the Peterborough Golf and Country Club on Aug. 31. All proceeds from the sold-out event go to the chosen charity, with a new charity chosen in each calendar year.

Proceeds go towards Food For Kids’s local student nutrition programs—working to provide students with access to nourishing food at school which helps with concentration in class, a reduction in school absences and achieving higher academic scores according to a press release.

“This donation was a true group effort on behalf of everyone involved and we are beyond thankful for that,” said Greg Kruk, partner, Sentinel Risk Insurance Group. “Supporting students and providing them the right tools to be successful in school has always been crucial—perhaps now more than ever given today’s cost of food.  Our team is thrilled to be able to help to the Food for Kids organization and highlight the important work they do.”

“Giving back to the communities that we live and do business in is an important part of the work we do,” said Peter Blodgett, Darling Insurance president. “This year’s tournament was the first year we’ve been back post-pandemic, and the support we saw from our communities, partners and teams was incredible—this level of donation is not possible without their support--and we are sincerely thankful for that.” 

“100 per cent of the money raised at the golf tournament will go directly to helping local student nutrition programs to provide nourishing food at school for all students,” said Angela Fuchs, Peterborough Food for Kids community development coordinator. “Last year there were over two million meals served in Peterborough City and County and your donation will help to support students to be able to do their best each day at school.”

“The nutrition programs in City of Kawartha Lakes will be serving almost a 1000 more meals every day due to growing need and this donation will directly help schools afford more food,” said Megan Curran, Kawartha Lakes Food for Kids school nutrition program coordinator. “With the increasing cost of food, donations like this help our schools sustain their programs and continue to help students thrive.”

Darling and Sentinel Risk Insurance Fundraises To Food For Kids With Revival Of Golf Tournament After Three-Year Hiatus

After three years on the shelf, Darling Insurance and Sentinel Risk Insurance has come back with their annual charity golf tournament at the Peterborough Golf & Country Club on Thursday.

The last tournament was in 2019 where proceeds were split between Community Care Peterborough and The Peterborough Humane Society. The COVID-19 pandemic prevented the annual event from launching for the past three years.

“It's been something we've been doing for over 25 years,” said Peter Blodgett, Darling Insurance owner. “What we do is try and give back to a community that's been awfully good to us.”

Roughly over 100 golfers hit the links in a tournament to support of Food for Kids Peterborough and Food for Kids Kawartha Lakes.

“With what's going on in the world these days and the economic scenarios that we deal with in this community, we just felt that doing something for kids was just a worthwhile effort,” explained Blodgett.

A count has yet to be fully tallied for money raised but Darling Insurance in its last outing raised roughly $20,000 in 2019.

Darling Insurance came to defend its title as they hosted the sixth annual Chili Challenge to benefit The Nourish Project at The Social Pub on Friday afternoon.

Six teams came and brought their own recipes to earn the ‘Chili Challenge’ title. The Social Pub, Darling Insurance, Team VanRahan, Peterborough Business + Social Club, Peterborough Humane Society and PTBOCanada were this year’s participants.

The public was invited and welcomed to try the chili flight, donate to the charity and voted for their top three teams.

Darling Insurance Donates $16,500 To Five Local Charities In Partnership With Other Local Brokerages

Darling Insurance and Sentinel Risk Insurance, along with the support of Hamilton Township Mutual Insurance and Gore Mutual Insurance made a donation of $16,500 to five local charities over the holidays.

The four local businesses split the donation between One Roof Community Centre, YWCA Peterborough-Haliburton Nourish Program, The Salvation Army, Women’s Resources in Lindsay, and Feed The Need in Havelock.

“We’ve always tried to help to meet the need for food insecurities - especially around Christmas,” said Glenn “Typically we would do one or two bigger donations but this year we thought we’d try to spread it out farther across the community.”

Millar notes that some organizations may be having a hard time fundraising due to gathering restrictions, so he hopes that this donation will be a welcome one.

“We really try to support local business and charities,” he said. “This year we made a big list of charities we’ve helped, because we wanted our employees to see that and be proud of working here - when I saw it even I was blown away. We just really want to thank our staff, we’re able to do it because of the work they do.”

Spanky's Yard Sale & BBQ For Survivors Abreast

This Saturday (June 1st) from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Spanky's is hosting a BBQ and yard sale to raise money for their Darling Insurance/Spanky's Downtown Dragon Boat team for Survivors Abreast. Artwork, collectables, restaurant equipment, small wares and other knick knacks will be available. Hunter Street is closed for a classic car show with live music and food vendors that day, so head on down for a great time, and to help Spanky's raise some money for a great cause.
