Jack’s 37th Annual Peterborough & District Sports Hall of Fame Golf Tournament to Tee Off On May 23
/There will be 240 linksmen participating in the Jack’s 37th Annual Peterborough & District Sports Hall of Fame (PDSHOF) Golf Tournament set for May 23 at the Quarry Golf Club, announced on Thursday afternoon.
The sold-out tournament fundraiser's proceeds will go towards the Hall of Fame’s operating fund and to support its bursary for exemplary high school student-athletes.
“You can see by the support that we get that it was a matter of calling all of our groups that played last year and everyone re-upped,” Doug Gibson, PDSHOF Golf Tournament chairperson. They wanted to play a game and it just shows the support.”
The tournament is in honour of Hall of Famer Jack Gibson, who was inducted in 1986 — Doug’s father — and had several roles and stints in the lacrosse and hockey world.
He managed the senior lacrosse team to a Mann Cup in 1966 and 1973. Jack helped organize a semi-pro league in 1968-69 and managed the team that won the championship in 1969.
He also managed Maryland Arrows of the Pro Lacrosse League in 1974-75. The Hall of Famer also managed Canada’s Field Lacrosse team in the 1967 World Championships.
Doug agreed that, “without a doubt,” this tournament was a way to help continue his father's legacy alongside the Hall of Fame.
“He was extremely proud when he was inducted into the Hall of Fame and he's been down here as one of the supporters before he passed away (in 2000),” explained Doug. “He really enjoyed his time here at the Hall of Fame and it has been good for the family.”
While the tournament is full, prospective golfers can join a waitlist to be accepted, pending any cancellations.

Darling and Sentinel Risk Insurance Fundraises To Food For Kids With Revival Of Golf Tournament After Three-Year Hiatus
/After three years on the shelf, Darling Insurance and Sentinel Risk Insurance has come back with their annual charity golf tournament at the Peterborough Golf & Country Club on Thursday.
The last tournament was in 2019 where proceeds were split between Community Care Peterborough and The Peterborough Humane Society. The COVID-19 pandemic prevented the annual event from launching for the past three years.
“It's been something we've been doing for over 25 years,” said Peter Blodgett, Darling Insurance owner. “What we do is try and give back to a community that's been awfully good to us.”
Roughly over 100 golfers hit the links in a tournament to support of Food for Kids Peterborough and Food for Kids Kawartha Lakes.
“With what's going on in the world these days and the economic scenarios that we deal with in this community, we just felt that doing something for kids was just a worthwhile effort,” explained Blodgett.
A count has yet to be fully tallied for money raised but Darling Insurance in its last outing raised roughly $20,000 in 2019.
Darling Insurance wanted to thank the following organizations for helping put on the tournament:
Wawanesa Insurance
CAA Insurance
The Commonwell Mutual Insurance Group
Intact Insurance
Aviva Canada
Gore Mutual Insurance
LLF Lawyers
Heartland Farm Mutual Insurance
Photos: 'Williams Weekend' Memorial Golf Tournament Pays Tribute To Five-Year Old Boy Who Passed Away Last Year In Accident
/There were 155 golfers who paid respects in a memorial golf tournament for five-year-old William Rock Gardner at the Bellmere Winds Golf Resort in Keene who passed away in an accident last year.
William passed away on Villiers Line just outside of the resort due to a golf cart malfunction. His parents and their friends sustained injuries while his sister Aurora was unharmed. The parents were admitted to the Peterborough Regional Health Centre (PRHC) following the accident and once they were released, visited William at Sick Kids Hospital. They opted to let him go due to the severe brain damage he suffered.
Despite heavy rain that started in the morning until mid-afternoon, golfers braved the weather to show their support for William.
“We're really grateful for all the support despite all the rain,” said Elizabeth Gardner, William’s mother. “Golfers continued to come in and they're playing through while smiling and laughing.”
Last year, a silent auction was held where the proceeds went toward the family. Saturday’s golf tournament had a raffle and auction in support of Sick Kids Hospital (where William passed away) and PRHC. Prizes such as Toronto Zoo tickets, hockey jerseys, a children’s wagon bundle and a golf and dinner getaway were some big-ticket items auctioned off.
Despite being overwhelmed with emotion, the family expressed their gratitude to all the supporters and hosts of William’s memory prior to the raffle draws.
“Despite everything, despite the sadness, we're so grateful for everyone who supports our family and can remember our funny, little sweet boy,” said Elizabeth.
Second Annual Gary Dalliday Memorial Golf Tournament Hits Peterborough Golf & Country Club Aug. 14 In Support of Community Care Peterborough
/The launch of the second annual Gary Dalliday Memorial charity golf tournament has been set for Aug. 14 at the Peterborough Golf & Country Club in support of Community Care Peterborough announced on Tuesday morning.
This year’s event welcomes 144 golfers to participate at the Peterborough Golf and Country Club, a change of venue from last year’s event which was held at the Quarry.
“We wanted to have the tournament here then Covid hit,” explained Pete Dalliday, son of Gary. “The Quarry was great last year and we appreciate what Doug and everyone did but I think it was always meant to be here.”
Proceeds will go to the Community Care’s Meals on Wheels program. It provided food to seniors living alone, adults with disabilities unable to cook or get groceries or recently discharged patients from hospitals. Dalliday often delivered meals on the organization’s behalf for the program. The money raised will also go towards the Caremoblie program that provides accessible transportation for seniors or adults with disabilities in the City and County.
About $20,000 was raised from last year’s event and this year’s goal is looking to get $30,000 according to Alicia Vandine, Community Care donor relations.
“We only receive about 50 per cent of our funding from the Ontario Government so as you can imagine, fundraising is as important as we're seeing the need for seniors really increase,” she said.
Participating golfers will receive 18 holes to play at Peterborough Golf and Country Club, a barbecue lunch, dinner and a chance to win prizes at a silent auction.
Registration, sponsorships or auction donations can be made online at the Community Care’s website.
The tournament’s idea spawned from his grandson Nick who previously did a placement with Community Care.
Seventh Annual Tebey Golf Classic Held at Wildfire Golf Club To Support Peterborough Youth
/The seventh annual Tebey Golf Classic has been announced for June 1 at Wildfire Golf Club in support of Peterborough Youth Services and the YES Shelter announced on Thursday.
“I’m really looking forward to getting home for our annual golf fundraiser with GPSHF, Your Family Health Team Foundation,” said Tebey. "As someone who has expressed my own challenges with mental health well-being over the years, it's really important to me to support initiatives in this area of health services."
Foursomes are $1000 and include a shotgun tee-off, meet and greet with Tebey, access to private in-person VIP acoustic performance with Tebey and special guests (TBA), activities and contests throughout the course, meals, prizes, professional photos of your group, and a chance to play one of Ontario’s top private courses that has hosted PGA tour events.
A $200 tax receipt will be provided to all foursomes, with funds raised going to support Youth Mental Health programming through Peterborough Youth Services and YES Shelter for Youth and Families.
"The Tebey Golf Classic is one of the highlights of our year at YES,” said Aimeé Le Lagadec, Yes Shelter executive director. “This incredible event has become crucial to the support provided to young people and families struggling severely with their mental health while experiencing homelessness in Peterborough."
“These funds help us to reduce wait times and to provide specialized services for children, youth and families,” said Gord Langill, Peterborough Youth Services Executive Director. “Mental health issues are affecting more people in more complex ways, and resources are limited, so every fund-raised dollar makes a difference.”
A shotgun tee-off will be scheduled at 12:30 p.m., with an outdoor acoustic performance taking place at 7 p.m.
The annual Tebey Golf Classic raises funds in partnership with GPHSF, Your Family Health Team Foundation, to support youth mental health programming across the Peterborough region. More than $175,000 has been raised over the past six years creating programming that previously did not exist in our community. This includes:
Reducing wait times and to provide specialized services for children, youth and families
Covid-19 Response Drop In Centre - YES Youth Emergency Shelter for Youth and Families
YES Homelessness Prevention Program partnership with Peterborough Youth Services and YES Year one and Year two Funding

Fleming College Students Tree Create Urban Forest Management Plan For Lindsay Golf and Country Club
/The fairways are looking a little greener at the Lindsay Golf and Country Club as Urban Forestry Technician students from Fleming College are completing a tree inventory and creating an urban forest management plan for the golf club on Thursday.
The plan helps the golf club decide which trees to plant and where they will go on the course.
The club’s tree population is predominantly Ash-most of which are infested by the Emerald Ash Borer, an invasive species that has significantly impacted urban and forested canopies across Ontario according to Fleming College. The insect is the cause of the trees becoming dead or dying and needing to be removed and replaced.
The club anticipates planting 20 to 25 trees per year over the next several years.

Inaugural Gary Dalliday Memorial Golf Tournament Raises Over $10,000 For Community Care Peterborough
/There were 99 golfers that participated in the inaugural Gary Dalliday Memorial charity golf tournament, raising over $10,000 in support of Community Care Peterborough at the Quarry Golf Club in Ennismore on Monday.
Tournament proceeds went towards Community Care’s support offices in Ennismore and Buckhorn.
“We only about 50 per cent of our funding from the Ontario Government so events like this and fundraising that we do are very important,” said Alicia Vandine, Community Care donor relations. “Our growth and our need for services as people are aging are getting bigger and bigger.”
Proceeds also went towards their Meals on Wheels program, a volunteer position Dalliday was often involved in. The program provided food to seniors living alone, adults with disabilities unable to cook or get groceries or recently discharged patients from hospitals. Dalliday often delivered meals on the organization’s behalf for the program.
A silent auction was held after the tournament and dinner’s conclusion with funds going towards the same cause. Items such as a Michael Bunting Toronto Maple Leafs jersey, a golf club, golf bag and Peterborough Petes Suite tickets were available for auction.
The tournament’s idea spawned from his grandson Nick who previously did a placement with Community Care. Eventually, Gary’s children Pete, Tim and Krista got onboard in making the event happen.
“It speaks to a cause he believed in and the fact that it is a local-based charity, this was one that was near and dear to his heart,” said Tim Dalliday. “It's a very worthy cause and I think he would be very proud of what we're doing today and raising some funds for Community Care.”
