Clean Up Peterborough are looking for volunteers interested in searching the area from Millennium Park south around Little Lake to the entrance of the Cemetery for litter and cigarette butt waste. Our goal is to collect as many cigarette butts as possible for recycling, and sort and separate litter from recyclables as well. Gloves, bags and litter pickers provided.
Our objective for being part of the 2024 Unsmoke Canada Cleanups program is to host a minimum of four Community Clean Up events in the Peterborough area between start of July and the end of September. For each clean up – we will be tracking and reporting the following: number of volunteers, weight and/or number of cigarette butts picked-up, weight of total litter/trash/debris removed.
Our main goal is to help raise awareness about the negative effects cigarette butt litter has on our ecosystems and environment (one of the most abundant form of plastic waste in the world), and provide opportunities for people to join together and make a difference. During clean ups – we will also do our best to sort trash from clean recycling, and identify the different types of plastic that we find.
