At this point, the City is investigating the feasibility of installing cycling lanes on Charlotte Street between Park Street and Hospital Drive. Cycling lanes were identified as a priority on Charlotte Street in the 2012 Cycling Network Plan because Charlotte Street is one of the only east-west streets that continues west of Monaghan Road and does not have a major hill, such as Parkhill Road or Sherbrooke Street.
The most economical time to install cycling lanes or change the way a street is laid out, is when new asphalt is placed on the street. Charlotte Street is currently being resurfaced, so the City is examining the options available within the existing curbs. At this stage of the review, we do not anticipate any changes to the trees, sidewalks, driveways or boulevards if this project is approved.
Go on-line to read more about the proposed cycling lanes and to fill out the new Charlotte Street Cycling Lane Survey. Please fill out the survey by Friday, July 24, 2020.
The general on-line survey for the Cycling Master Plan and the interactive map where you can rate your cycling experience in different parts of the city will be live for another few weeks.
