A Summer Play Program for children ages 4 to 11 will begin on July 13, 2020 as an alternative to the City of Peterborough’s normal summer day camp programs, reflecting provincial safety guidelines during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Summer Play Program is focused on offering a variety of day-long programs providing children with a chance to practice physical distancing while still having access to summer programming. Summer Play will be offered in two primary locations, with additional locations being considered based on demand.
Summer Play – Navy Club, located at 24 Whitlaw St., offers ample green space with access to aquatic play at Beavermead Beach or the Roger’s Cove Splash Pad. For rainy days, Admiralty Hall will be used for indoor activities. This program takes place Monday through Friday, with drop off beginning at 8 a.m. each day. Pickup will start at 4 p.m. The registration fee is $208 per child, per week. Registration for the week of July 13, opens at 10 a.m. on Monday, July 6.
Summer Play – Museum Adventure, located at the Peterborough Museum and Archives, 300 Hunter St. E., offers a unique experience for children that includes new activities, inquiry and problem-solving techniques, access to the museum’s exhibits, and a learning-based approach to summer programs. This program takes place Monday through Friday, with drop off beginning 8:45 a.m. each day. Pickup will be no later than 4:15 p.m. The registration fee is $250 per child, per week. Registration for the week of July 27, opens at 10 a.m. on Monday, July 13.
Registration for the Summer Play programs is through the City’s website at www.peterborough.ca/summercamps. Registrations open weekly for each following week.
Each program will have limited space as the number in each group has been limited to follow provincial guidelines and other safety measures, including enhanced cleaning and disinfection protocols, assigned supply kits, and screening protocols. Families are asked send a peanut-free lunch and snacks, as staff will not be able to provide food that not provided by the family directly.

The Art Gallery of Peterborough is considering alternative summer programming for when it is able to re-open to the public. Dates and details for summer programming at the Art Gallery will be announced when details are finalized.
