The Society of Saint Vincent de Paul (SSVP) Peterborough will be opening a new and third "Vinnies - Feel Good Shopping" thrift store on Saturday, August 24, 2019. The new store is located at 539 George St. N., at the intersection of McDonnel St. and George St. This location is in addition to the Erskine Ave. store, which recently celebrated its 8th anniversary, as well as a second store in Lakefield on Queen St.
"We're thrilled to be opening another Vinnies," said Mike Warren, Store Committee Chair. "The local community has been incredibly supportive over the years of the work we do at the Food Pantry, and Vinnies is the key component to keeping up with demand." On the location, Warren added, “This is a central location, and along with the Erskine and Lakefield locations, we hope that Vinnies will be even more accessible to a greater number of people.”
In 2018, SSVP Peterborough served 20,042 individuals at the food pantry — over 6,700 of these clients were children.
Warren asked residents to consider SSVP Peterborough throughout the year, "When someone is cleaning out their closets, or their child grows out of their clothing, or they're moving, we hope they keep us in mind."
The George St. location will be open Monday - Friday, from 10 a.m. - 6 p.m., and Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. An accessible entrance has been incorporated, and will be completed in September.
