Couple Arrested After a String of Thefts From a Business They Were Employed Under

A couple in their 20s faces multiple charges after information about thefts at a Peterborough business was brought forward, reported on Thursday.

The Community FIRST Unit officers were made aware of many incidents between January and June while the suspects were employed by the business. After reviewing the information, the officers located the suspects, who turned themselves in at the police station on Thursday.

As a result of the investigation:

A 25-year-old Peterborough man was arrested and charged with:

• Theft Under $5,000 X19

A 27-year-old Peterborough woman was arrested and charged with:

• Theft Under $5,000 X16

The accused were released on an undertaking and are scheduled to appear in court on Nov. 24.

Oshawa Woman Charged With Fraud After Forging Documents to Be Employed as a Personal Support Worker

A 38-year-old Oshawa woman is facing charges after providing false documents to obtain employment as a personal support worker.

On Oct. 30, a Peterborough business made officers with the Fraud Unit aware of the incident. In conjunction with the National Association of Career Colleges (NACC), they determined that the certification provided during a job interview was fraudulent.

The woman was arrested and charged with:

• Utter forged document x2

The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court on Dec. 17

Peterborough Police Seeking Three Suspects Who Fired Shots On Fairburn Street

The Peterborough Police Service has launched an investigation and is seeking three suspects who fired shots on Fairbairn Street Tuesday night.

At roughly 11:30 p.m., officers were called to the townhomes at 850 Fairbairn St. after several reports of gun shots. They learned that several units were struck with bullets and several more were fired into the air. No one was injured in the incident.

Officers are looking for three men, all dressed in black, who left the area in a black vehicle and headed north on Fairbairn Street.

Peterborough Teenager Faces Several Charges After Robbing a Man With a Pellet Gun

A 14-year-old Peterborough male is facing several charges after incidents Saturday night.

Officers were notified about incidents the previous day in which the window of a vehicle was shot out and a man was robbed at gunpoint in the Sherbrooke Street and George Street area on Sunday. 

They located the suspect at a residence in the Ashburnham Drive and Maria Street area and took him into custody at gunpoint. Upon a search after arrest, a pellet gun was located along with a knife in a backpack.

The teen was arrested and charged with:

• Robbery using Firearm (Restricted or Prohibited)

• Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose

• Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm

• Pointing a Firearm

• Failure to comply with release order - other than to attend court X3

The accused is currently on a release order with the following conditions: to reside with their surety every night, to not possess any weapons as defined by the Criminal Code and to not possess any knives.

The accused was held in custody and appeared in court on Monday.

Peterborough Man Charged With Two Theft Cases In the Span of 90 Minutes

A 23-year-old Peterborough man is facing theft charges after two incidents on Thursday evening.

At roughly 5:30 p.m., officers with the Community FIRST Unit arrived at a business in the Lansdowne Street and Park Street area.  They searched the area and located a male matching the description given to police a short distance away.  Officers were able to recover the items that were taken and return them to the business. During the arrest, it was determined the suspect was also wanted in connection with a theft at another business about an hour and a half earlier.

The man was arrested and charged with:

• Theft Under $5,000 X2

The accused is being held in custody and will appear in court on Friday.

Markham Man Arrested And Charged Over Bank Scams Circulating Throughout Peterborough

A 32-year-old Markham man has been arrested and charged with a bank scam circulating in Peterborough.

At roughly 6:50 p.m. on Wednesday, officers were called to a business in the Park Street and Lansdowne Street area after employees recognized a suspect from a video released last Friday, was inside the business. Officers confirmed that the male matched the description of the suspect given in two incidents and took him into custody.  

As a result of the investigation, this suspect has been charged with six incidents in the Peterborough area. To date, the confirmed dollar value lost is about $40,000.

The man was arrested and charged with:

• Fraud Over $5,000.00 X3

• Possession of Credit Card Obtained by Crime X6

• Fail to Comply with Probation X6

The accused is currently bound by a probation order with the following conditions: to keep the peace and be of good behaviour.

The accused is being held in custody and will appear in court on Friday.

Police Seeking Suspect Who Broke a Window and Stole $1,000 In Alcohol From a Business

The Peterborough Police Service is investigating after a break and enter at a local business on Tuesday.

Officers arrived at a business in the Ashburnham Drive and Hunter Street East area after employees arriving for work noticed a broken window and approximately $1,000 in alcohol missing. 

Police believe the incident happened sometime between 1 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. on the same day.

Peterborough Man Arrested On Impaired Driving Charges; Three Teenage Girls Were With the Suspect In the Vehicle

A 59-year-old Peterborough man is facing impaired charges after an incident early Sunday morning.

At roughly 12:30 a.m., officers went to the Mount Pleasant Road and Best Road area regarding a possible impaired driver. They located a vehicle matching the description given, conducted a traffic stop and noticed signs of impairment. There was also a discovery of drug paraphernalia. 

Three teenage females were in the vehicle with the man. During the investigation, one of them fled into a field and was safely located by K9 Gryphon about two kilometres away.

The man was charged with:

• Operation while impaired - alcohol

• Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

• Drive vehicle or boat with cannabis readily available (Cannabis Control Act)

• Driving motor vehicle with liquor readily available (Liquor)

The accused was issued an automatic 90-day license suspension and seven-day vehicle impoundment.

The accused was released on an appearance notice and is scheduled to appear in court on Dec. 17.

Peterborough Police Release Footage of Bank Scam Suspect; Seeking Public's Assistance In Locating Them

The Peterborough Police Service is seeking the public’s assistance regarding a bank scam occuring in Peterborough recently.

Through investigation, officers with the fraud unit identified a suspect as being connected with two cases. 

The suspect is described as:

• Male; Brown Skin

• Bald with a Full Dark Brown Beard

• Wearing a Black Adidas zip-up jacket with white stripes on the shoulders and down the arm

• Jeans

• Light grey sneakers

Peterborough Police Seeking Two Suspects After Fleeing From Motorcycle Collision

The Peterborough Police Service is looking for two motorists after a single vehicle collision last week Thursday.

At approximately 7:50 a.m., officers received reports of a motorcycle being driven erratically on Clonsilla Avenue before crashing in the area of Ford Street. 

After the collision, the driver was picked up by another motorcycle and the pair fled the scene. Through investigation, officers determined that the bike was last spotted in the Fairbairn Street and Parkhill Road West area.

The motorist involved in the collision is described as:

• Male

• Brown jacket

• Black Pants

• Black Helmet

The second motorist is described as:

• Male

• Green jacket

• Orange pants
