Cycle Tourism Signage Program & Digital Route Mapping To Launch In Peterborough & Kawarthas

Peterborough & the Kawarthas Tourism, part of Peterborough Economic Development, and Shimano Canada have partnered to create a new, marketable cycle tourism product. The multi-phase project will focus on a series of varied length cycling routes joining the County of Peterborough and the City of Peterborough through a regional cycling signage program and digital route mapping. These permanently sign-posted routes will take riders off of the beaten path, and introduce them to the best roads our region has to offer. The routes utilize scenic country roads throughout the County and tie into a number of trail systems in the City of Peterborough to highlight popular routes which are enjoyed by many of the area’s passionate local cyclists, but are yet to be discovered by visitors to the area—as cycle tourism contines to grow in popularity.

Here Are Photos Of A $80 Million Cham Shan Buddhist Temple Being Constructed Near Peterborough

There is a massive $80 million Cham Shan Buddhist retreat temple project under development on Ski Hill Road near Bethany (about 30 minutes south of Peterborough) by the Buddhist Association of Canada that I toured. It will be a re-creation of the Sacred Mountains of China. The largest Buddhist complex outside of China, it is being constructed over the next 20 years, with the main temple opening in the next couple of years. Conservative estimates are it will attract about 45,000 visitors annually from around the world, a potential boom to tourism in the area. The site was chosen because of its serenity and tranquility in a natural environment, perfect for a retreat.

The wooden temple was actually built in China, then taken apart and shipped to Canada. It will take about two years to re-assemble. There are no nails or glue, just interlocking rosewood brackets. The site, which will be a meditation centre, will also eventually feature a gift shop, restaurant and onsite accommodation. The Flavour design duo Mike Watt and Bryan Reid have launched a new brand developed and manufactured in Canada called PTBO NORTHERN ORIGINALS. The line comes from their "love for our city, our community, our home, Peterborough, Ontario, Canada." Available exclusively at Flavour Fashion (383 George Street North) in downtown Peterborough, this collection has a "vintage heritage campy look combined with a current street sensibility." The Peterborough & the Kawarthas Tourism team just arrived back from Pittsburgh, where they formally announced they will be hosting next year's Travel Media Association of Canada (TMAC) Conference & AGM from June 10th to June 14th, right here in Peterborough and the Kawarthas (Pittsburgh was this year's host for TMAC). This marks the first time the well known association has chosen to host its conference in a rural destination, and will showcase our area to a large number of Canadian travel media. Silver Bean Café Introducing PTBOCanada Coffee Blend From Kyoto This Summer

As a fun cross-promotion, we are delighted to announce that the Silver Bean Café will be serving a PTBOCanada Coffee this summer, a special Kyoto Coffee Blend.

As Silver Bean explains in a Facebook post announcing the promotion, "We decided to approach Tracy at Kyoto Coffee and ask her to make a special blend for us, one worthy to be called PTBOCanada Coffee. After some strenuous taste testing, I think we have settled on a blend. It is a Brazilian Peaberry and Peru Feminino coffee bean blend and we will be serving it up all summer long at the cafe. The Brazilian Peaberry is Rainforest Alliance and the Peruvian beans are Cafe Feminino."

So now you can drink us up all summer. Enjoy.
