Silver Bean Café Becomes Canadian Canoe Museum’s Café Operator In New Partnership

Getting a latté at the Canadian Canoe Museum (CCM) is easier for next summer as they are bringing a Silver Bean Café location to the museum’s new site on Ashburnham Drive in a partnership announced on Thursday.

Also known as ‘Silver Bean Café on the Lake,’ the menu will consist of specialty sandwiches and salads, made-to-order breakfasts, bakery items and coffee and various grab-and-go options. Kawartha Dairy ice cream will be served in the summer while soup, chilli and other comfort foods in the winter. The café will be licensed to serve alcohol.

“We were searching for an energetic, warm and welcoming team with proven experience to manage and operate the museum’s new café, that was also community-minded and would work with us to enhance our visitor experience,” says Carolyn Hyslop, CCM executive director.

The café will offer tourists, surrounding neighbours and the general public delectable delights year-round.

Silver Bean Café is expected to be open seven days a week during the museum’s hours of operation.

The space will be able to accommodate 30 people seated inside and 32 outside on the terrace.

“It is exciting to be able to provide a location that will be open all year round and maintain a presence on another beautiful Nogojiwanong/Peterborough waterfront with stunning indoor and patio options,” said Dan Brandsma, Silver Bean Café owner. “We feel we have a natural affinity to the museum’s values/culture and (the) waterfront location and will do our utmost to add to the experience with fresh, local and delicious food and drink offerings.”

The King Street location at Millennium Park is continuing to operate seasonally (typically from May to Oct.). Oct. 15 is the last day of operation for 2022.

'100 Days Out' Celebration Planned For Ontario 55+ Summer Games In Peterborough

To celebrate the start of the Peterborough 2022 Ontario 55+ Summer Games in August, A “100 Days Out” celebration will take place on May 2 at the Silver Bean Café.

The event will generate momentum and build excitement for the Games, which take place August 9 to 11 throughout the City and County of Peterborough, as well as promote a call for volunteers who would like to support the Games.

Organized by the Games Organizing Committee, the event will be attended by local dignitaries and PACHI the mascot of the Ontario Games, and include speeches from Mayor Diane Therrien, County Deputy Warden Andy Mitchell, Games Organizing Committee Chair Fred Batley and Downtown Business Improvement Area Executive Director Terry Guiel.

"The Downtown Business Improvement Area is thrilled to be partnering with the City of Peterborough for the Ontario 55+ Summer Games”, said Guiel. “Our historically charming downtown is filled with the kind of unique dining and shopping experiences that the visiting athletes will most certainly enjoy. We can't wait to show off our entertainment district and the vibrant patios this summer. Of course, we are looking forward to the games bringing a much-needed economic boost to our downtown businesses."

The 100 Days Out event will take place from 5 to 6 p.m., on May 2, at the Silver Bean Café, 130 King St., inside Millennium Park, and feature live music performed by local musicians. Refreshments will also be available.

Silver Bean Café Opens For 2019 Season On May 1st

Silver Bean Café, your waterfront cottage in the city, has announced its opening day for the 2019 season is Wednesday, May 1st.

“The end of April is always a bit of a slog for us, just hoping that the weather will get a bit warmer, that we’ll get everything figured out in the time we have, and that people will come back for another season,” the Bean says in a Facebook post.

Indeed they will come. “The Bean”, as it’s known, is not only a regular go-to spot for locals but also a bucketlist location for tourists to visit.

Silver Bean Cafe Opens For 16th Season In Peterborough

A sure sign of Spring: The Silver Bean Cafe, your waterfront cottage in the city located on the banks of the Otonabee River in downtown Peterborough, opens at 8 am this Tuesday (May 1st) for the season.

This will be the 16th season for the Bean as it's fondly known by locals and tourists alike.

Silver Bean Café Introducing PTBOCanada Coffee Blend From Kyoto This Summer

As a fun cross-promotion, we are delighted to announce that the Silver Bean Café will be serving a PTBOCanada Coffee this summer, a special Kyoto Coffee Blend.

As Silver Bean explains in a Facebook post announcing the promotion, "We decided to approach Tracy at Kyoto Coffee and ask her to make a special blend for us, one worthy to be called PTBOCanada Coffee. After some strenuous taste testing, I think we have settled on a blend. It is a Brazilian Peaberry and Peru Feminino coffee bean blend and we will be serving it up all summer long at the cafe. The Brazilian Peaberry is Rainforest Alliance and the Peruvian beans are Cafe Feminino."
