The current exhibition at Peterborough Museum & Archives is Avro Arrow: A Dream Denied, which tells the remarkable story of one of Canada’s greatest technological achievements.
Decades have passed since the development and destruction of the Avro Arrow and Iroquois engine yet many still wonder "what-might-have-been."
Should the projects have been cancelled? Were they as good as their builders said they would be? What were the real reasons behind the cancellations? These and other mysteries are explored in this exhibition full of images, artifacts and explanations.
Avro Arrow: A Dream Denied was developed and produced by the West Parry Sound District Museum as part of the Travelling Exhibition Partnership Project.
Check it out at Peterborough Museum & Archives (Ashburnham Memorial Park on Museum Drive, 300 Hunter Street East). Admission is by donation, with free parking and barrier-free access. The exhibition runs through September 30th.

Peterborough Clicks, a local photographic walking group, is hosting a photography exhibition at the Silver Bean this weekend. It runs 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the 21st and 22nd, and is open for the public to view at the Millennium Park Viewing Room.

The final ten contestants were announced Sunday night during the Search 4 a Star reveal show at The Venue in downtown Peterborough. After each weekly show during June, fans could vote for their favourite act by texting in who they thought the best act was. In an unexpected twist, three individuals qualified for tenth place in a complete tie. The following people will compete at the Grand Finale at Little Lake MusicFest on August 22nd for over $5,000 in cash and prizes...

Carrie and Mike at Gerti's. Restaurant-goers at Gerti's on Hunter Street in downtown Peterborough were star struck Saturday night (July 14th) when in walked country music star Carrie Underwood with her husband, NHL player Mike Fisher, who is from the area.
They arrived at Gerti's for a post wedding reception party, as Mike's brother, Rob, married earlier in the day in town.
Seems the wedding guests weren't supposed to show up at Gerti's until later, about 1 a.m., for what was supposed to be a private party, but the power went out at the Peterborough golf club where the wedding reception was being held—there was a power outage in parts of the city last night—so about 50 to 60 guests arrived at Gerti's earlier, at around 11:00 p.m., for celebrations.
And since the restaurant was still open to the public, fans inside got to glimpse Carrie and Mike sitting at a booth with some other guests from the wedding for a while before the celebrity couple moved to the back patio along with most of the other guests.
There was a buzz in the air when they arrived and fans tweeted their excitement, with @LaurieBecks saying, "Carrie underwood is at Gerti's in Peterborough right now!!!"
The private couple left shortly after midnight before the other guests, which is when we snapped this picture above as they were standing with Mike's father Jim.

The back parking lot at Spanky's is a place to be Saturday, July 14th. They have a special permit and licensed area, where local bands and DJs will be performing. It's also a fundraiser for the Peterborough Breast Cancer Support Group.
