The Spoons To Kick Off Peterborough Musicfest On Canada Day

This is the first of 16 free admission performances presented this July and August as part of the concert series’ milestone 35th season.
Since The Spoons last headlined Musicfest in August 2016, the quartet has released a new studio album, New Day New World, as well as two compilation albums – Repeatable 1980-2020 and Echoes.
Friday’s concert will begin at 8 p.m. This event is completely free, with first come first served seating. it is suggested that concert goers bring a lawn chair, chairs will be available to rent at the venue.
If a storm occurs during a concert, a cancellation announcement will be made from the stage. Peterborough Musicfest will not issue a cancellation call until 7:45 p.m. a fifteen minutes before the scheduled start of 8 p.m. Rescheduling of weathera cancelled concerts is not guaranteed.

Canada Day Events In Peterborough And Surrounding Areas
/Canada Day is Friday and The City of Peterborough as well as the townships surrounding it have big plans to celebrate.

The City of Peterborough:
Pre-parade ceremonies will start at 10 a.m. at City Hall. Visitors are welcome to enjoy a piece of cake, free entertainment, activities for the kids in the park and enter the bike decorating contest. Prizes for the best use of the theme (Back Together) for ages 5 to 8 years and 9 to 12 years. Register for the bike decorating contest at 11 a.m. at Confederation Square Park across from City Hall.
Parade will begin at noon and head south on George Street from City Hall to Morrow Park.
Lessons from the Land:
Nimkii Osawamick, founder of Dedicated Native Awareness, will be leading a beading circle and sharing teachings. "Lessons from the Land" from 1:00 to 3:30pm at Beavermead Pavilion to make a friendship bracelet that can be given to an Indigenous friend to build new bridges. All materials will be supplied.
Douro-Dummer:
This years parade theme is ‘Reunited’.
Parade to begin at 2:30 p.m. at 4th Line at Cty Rd 4 will run south towards the village.
Those interested in entering a float, bicycle or walking should meet at 4th Line at Cty Rd 4 at 2 p.m.

There will be a 50/50 raffle and a silent auction with all proceeds going to the families that lost their home to a fire in June.
Otonabee - South - Monaghan:
Parade begins at 10 a.m. at North Shore Public School and ends at OSM Fire Station 1. Refreshments and celebration will follow at the fire station.
Trent Hills:
Campbellford:
8 a.m. - 10 a.m. : Rotary Pancake Breakfast - Members of the Campbellford Rotary Club serve a pancake breakfast complete with pancakes, sausages and Watson's Maple Syrup to enjoy on them. $8 for adults 12 and over. $4 for children under 12. Special rate for a family of 4 is $20.
9 a.m. - Entertainment by Phoxy Music. Phil & Roxy are a husband and wife duo who call themselves Phoxy Music. Their warm harmonies are featured in a vast catalogue of music including original compositions and songs from the 1960’s on up.
Park Activities: From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. enjoy children's activities in the park. Games, crafts, face painting, food booth, Blades of Glory demonstrations, bicycle obstacle course, Trent Hills Fire Department displays and more!
10 a.m. : Teddy Bear Parade led by Sparky the Fire Dog! Dress up your teddy bears and Celebrate Canada Day with a parade through Old Mill Park. New for 2022: Bike Parade- Decorate your bike for Canada Day! Following the parade stop by the Bike Action Trent Hills Booth for a bike check-up and try out the bicycle obstacle course.
10:30 a.m. : Blades of Glory presents Challenge the Knight. "Challenge a Knight" pits very brave and very young wanna-be sword fighters vs our amazing and Battle hardened Knights in an ultimate showdown.
11:30 a.m. : Blades of Glory presents the Knight Duel. Cheer for your favourite warriors as they fight toward victory in this blood-pumping medieval combat.
12 p.m. : Official Ceremonies with greetings from dignitaries; Singing of O’Canada and Serving of Canada Day cupcakes.
Warkworth:
Warkworth's Canada Celebration starts July 1 at 11 a.m. Lots of great performers playing lots of great tunes for you, and as always the Trent Hills Firefighters will be cooking up delicious hot dogs for you and the Warkworth Community Service Club will have all kinds of delicious snacks for everyone, and a Jumpy Castle for the kids! ALL of this is free. Hope to see you in the patch and in Warkworth at the Old Mill Park this week! The festivities start at 11 a.m.
Hastings:
10 a.m. - 1 p.m. : Hastings Fire Station Open House. Stop by Station 2 in Hastings for an open house. BBQ, hot dogs and drinks. See the trucks, and talk with firefighters.
1 p.m. - Hastings Legion Branch 106 BBQ
4 p.m. - Canada Day Parade: Celebrate Canada Day with the annual parade. Decorated bikes & wagons, old cars and floats are welcome to participate. Route along Front Street to begin at the Pavilion.
Following the Parade - The Singing of O Canada will be led by Adrianna Hopman at the Gazebo. Hopman is a 15 yr old Country Singer, Recording Artist and Songwriter.
6 p.m. - Live Entertainment at the Gazebo.
8:30 p.m. - Hastings Legion Branch 106 Dance (upstairs). Watch the fireworks from the patio.
Dusk - Award-winning Fireworks Display brought to you by the Trent Hills Firefighters. Please be generous when you see Firefighters and volunteers passing the boot for donations to support the fireworks display.
Parks Canada Offering Free Lockage On Trent Severn Waterway On Canada Day
/Parks Canada is offering recreational boaters free lockage on the Trent-Severn Waterway, on Canada Day.

According to Parks Canada, this decision has been made in hopes to ‘celebrate the incredible beauty and natural heritage of Canada’.
The Parks Canada website www.parkscanada.gc.ca/trent provides detailed information on what locations are open, what visitors can expect, how to prepare for a visit and what services may be available. Visitors are asked to plan ahead by checking the website before they visit.
Free Admission To Canadian Canoe Museum On Sunday, National Canoe Day
/The Canadian Canoe Museum is celebrating national Canoe Day on Sunday by offering free admission to the museum.

June 26th was coined National Canoe Day by The Canadian Canoe Museum following a CBC campaign that, in 2007, declared the canoe one of the Seven Wonders of Canada.
This will be The Canadian Canoe Museum’s final National Canoe Day celebration at their current location before they make the move to their new home on Ashburnham Drive.
This year, The Canadian Canoe Museum will be celebrating virtually and in person at the Museum so that those near and far can participate.
PedalBoro Is Back And Ready To Tour The Town By Bike
/PedalBoro, a 15-passenger party bike that takes groups through downtown Peterborough, is back after taking a two year break during the COVID-19 pandemic.

PedalBoro was established in 2019, and allowed passengers to visit local pubs in Peterborough while cycling the streets with friends.
Now, two years later – owned and operated by Peterborough locals Hillary Flood and Peter Rellinger – PedalBoro is back in business and taking bookings.
"We want to do our part in helping Peterborough bounce back and bring a little joy to the streets,” said Rellinger. “With the economy now fully reopen, the timing is right to safely re-launch this summer."
PedalBoro will make its first trip of the year on July 1 and continue to take passengers Thursday-through-Sunday for four months.
In the mix for 2022 stops are McThirsty’s, Spanky’s, The Black Horse, The Maple Moose, Cameron’s Brewery, Electric City Bread Company and Euphoria Wellness Spa.
According to Flood, PedalBoro ridership in 2019 saw 60 percent hail from out of town, primarily from Durham Region and the GTA. In addition, 48 percent of those stayed overnight, providing a significant benefit to the local economy. Close to 90 percent of all PedalBoro cyclists spent time in downtown Peterborough after their tour, supporting core area restaurants, cafés and pubs.
"Back in 2019, when this whole bike dream started, I vividly remember sitting down with Pete and pitching – very formally with a PowerPoint presentation – that we use almost our entire savings to buy a party bike,” said Flood. “Flash forward a few years later and we are finally getting to run our second season of pedal-powered fun. It's an exciting moment for us to finally say out loud, with confidence, ‘We're back.’ It's like a phoenix rising from the ashes.”
While bookings are being taken for private tours at this point, Flood says individual riders will be able to book a tour for Sundays later in the season.

Trent Severn Waterway Re-opens For Daytime Navigation After Significant Precipitation Caused Closures
/Parks Canada announces that conditions are favourable to allow for the re-opening of the Trent-Severn Waterway for daytime navigation starting at 9 a.m. on Friday.

Since June 1 the Trent-Severn’s watersheds have received significant amounts of precipitation, prompting Parks Canada to close some lock stations in the interest of public safety.
For residents and boaters along the Severn River, flows will continue to increase outside of navigation hours until further notice. The public should consider these overnight flows as non-navigable.
The increased flows overnight are the result of water management dam adjustments to address the higher than normal water levels caused by the recent precipitation.
While water levels and flows are on the decline, residents and visitors should continue to exercise extreme caution both on and around the water. All boaters are strongly encouraged to lower their speed to limit their wash and wake.
Peterborough Museum And Archives Presents 'Space To Spoon' A Hands On Experience For All Ages

Space to Spoon seeks to answer the question ‘What does a satellite orbiting 798 kilometers from Earth have to do with the food on our plate?’.
The exhibit was produced by the Canada Agriculture and Food Museum, in partnership with the Canadian Space Agency (CSA),featuring how space technology benefits Canadian farmers and sustainable agriculture. This exhibition will also highlight the CSA’s Earth observation satellite, RADARSAT-2, and its cutting-edge successor, RADARSAT Constellation.
Space to Spoon is a hands-on experience, with graphics and interactive elements for visitors of all ages. The science, technology, and innovations that transform satellite images into agricultural application is showcased in a way that encourages informal science learning among all visitors.
“As an astronaut who grew up on a farm in southern Ontario, this is a topic that really interests me,” said Jeremy Hansen, an astronaut with the Canadian Space Agency. “Satellites like the RADARSAT-2 have made Canada a world leader in Earth observation, which includes agricultural land. Visitors will learn how satellite data helps Canadian farmers monitor their crops and determine the condition of their land. Radar data allows farmers to better manage their resources, like water and fertilizer; and engage in agricultural practices that are sustainable and environmentally responsible.”
The exhibition features four interactive modules inclusive of videos, a RADARSAT-2 replica, photos, and stunning satellite images. All exhibition elements are presented in both English and French. Admission to the Peterborough Museum & Archives is by donation.
Peterborough Beaches And Wading Pools To Be Monitored As Of June 25
/The City of Peterborough will be conducting staff training for this summer’s lifeguard program from June 21 to 24 at Beavermead and Rogers Cove beaches.
