Peterborough Petes Take Down Defending Champions A Second Time With 5-2 Road Win

The Peterborough Petes topped the defending OHL Champion Hamilton Bulldogs for a second time this on the road, 5-2 on Saturday afternoon.

The first period went by fast with no penalties or goals. Peterborough led in shots 9-7 going into the second.

The second period was slightly more lively Bulldog’s Noah Roberts took a major spearing penalty three minutes in. Peterborough capitalized as Jack Van Volsen crashed the net and shovelled in a Tucker Robertson rebound to get the game’s first score into the third.

The Petes had layover powerplay time from a Hamilton penalty in the second. J.R. Avon extended Peterborough’s lead to 2-0. Seconds later Hamilton captain Logan Morrison cut the lead in half. Justin DeZoete restored the two-goal lead late into the period to make it 3-1.

Hamilton had a six-on-four powerplay with an empty net and capitalized to make it 3-2. The Bulldogs pulled their goalie again but Tucker Robertson tacked on the insurance marker to make it 4-2. Nick Lardis added a powerplay goal with five seconds left to make it a 5-2 final.

The Petes next game is against the Soo Greyhounds this Thursday at home on Halloween Night.
