The idea for the Trent Severn Cup was sparked local soccer districts, East Central Ontario Soccer Association (ECOSA) and Huronia District Soccer Association HDSA, that the two League1 teams represent.
“Both franchises have shown a great desire to compete at the highest standards and strive to participate at the highest level in the Canadian Soccer landscape,” said John Copp, HDSA president. “The Districts want to help kick off these franchises' inaugural season and provide the groundwork for what we expect will be a long (friendly) rivalry between two top League 1 Ontario Clubs.”
The cup features a unique format where the winning club is based on the combined score of both the Men’s and Women’s matches each season. If the score after the two matches remains tied, the competition will then be decided by a penalty shootout in the second match.
