It is with great sadness that the staff of Riverview Park and Zoo have announced the death of 15-year-old Quentin, their older male Sichuan takin.
With his gentle nature and enigmatic appearance, Quentin was very popular with the zoo's visitors. The first of the zoo's Sichuan takin, he came to Riverview in the spring of 2014 from the Assiniboine Zoo in Winnipeg.
For more than a year, Quentin has been treated for severe metacarpal osteoarthritis, but his health and mobility deteriorated significantly and he was no longer responding to treatments/medication.
The progress of this degenerative disease had left him unable to stand or walk, except for short periods of time. The zoo's consulting veterinarian humanely euthanized Quentin on Monday morning (May 14th).
