A Peterborough Golfer Who Turns 100 In January Plays At Kawartha Golf Almost Every Day

Fraser Dunfield is 99 years young and golfs at Kawartha Golf & Country Club in Peterborough almost every day.

"He's here about three to four times a week—usually playing 9 or 12 holes," Kawartha Golf's General Manager Kevin Greenwood tells PTBOCanada. "He prefers to play alone."

Dunfield joined Kawartha when he was 18 years old, after moving here from Toronto where he took a job at General Electric.

A terrific athlete as a kid in many sports—swimming, softball, hockey, track, curling, rugby—he was golf champion prior to joining Kawartha, having won the junior title at Humber Valley in 1932.

Fraser, who turns 100 on January 28th, 2017, is a legend around Kawartha. He was Kawartha Club Champion in 1937, 1940, 1943 and 1952, and won city championships in 1947 and 1949.

His wife, Jean—who passed away in 2009 at age 91—also won multiple club and city championships.

Dunfield was Club President in 1965, and was an inductee to the Peterborough Sports Hall of Fame. He's had an Honorary Life Membership at Kawartha since 1977, and each year the Men's Match Play compete for the prestigious "Dunfield Cup".

The best part? He and Jean both had a hole in one on the 18th at Kawartha, so that has always been his favourite hole to play on. Their legacy there will live on forever.
