Attention science fanatics from age 13-18! Trent University is once again hosting the awesome Forensic Science and DNA Summer camp, and you won’t want to miss it!
This is your chance to gain hands-on experience and learn from industry professionals in settings that will make you think you're in a real crime scene. With the stunning Symons Campus as your backdrop, Trent Forensics will take you on an interactive journey that you'll have to see to believe.
Here are a few of the activities you or your savvy kids can expect at the camp...
-> Processing crime scenes at the crime scene house -> Evidence collection -> DNA extraction -> Outdoor crime scene processing -> Fingerprint and DNA analysis
In addition to these awesome hands-on experiences, you will learn from industry experts including members of the OPP, Peterborough Police Forensics Unit, MNRF professionals, bloodstain pattern analysts, and more! The topics in the daily guest lectures include:
-> Crime scene investigation and evidence collection -> Law enforcement -> Wildlife forensics -> Bloodstain pattern analysis (think Dexter) -> Finger printing -> Entomology (the study of insects)
This fantastic camp runs in two one-week sessions starting in mid-July, and includes an overnight and day camp option. Residential campers will have the unique opportunity to stay overnight in Gzowski College and will live like a real on-campus student for a week. Campers will be under 24 hour supervision and be provided 3 meals per day. The day camp runs from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. with meal plans being an option for day campers should they choose to go that route.
For those looking for the all-encompassing university experience, activities such as an evening trip to the zoo, bonfires, hikes, on-campus recreational activities, a formal dinner, and a trip to the movies are in store.
The deadline for registration is June 10th, 2016 yet May 20th offers another deadline of interest. The camp is offering a limited number of bursaries based on academic excellence and potential financial need. This is a date you'll want to circle on your calendar! Campers can register online or by contacting Trent’s Conference Services.
