The Zoo's Beloved River Otter Splash Has Passed Away

The Riverview Park and Zoo made the sad announcement on their social media platforms Friday (April 22nd) that beloved 11-year-old female river otter Splash has passed away.

Splash came to the zoo in 2007 from the Assiniboine Zoo in Winnipeg to join Splish in the zoo's brand-new otter exhibit. Splash was very popular with visitors of all ages and staff because of her active and playful nature.

"This is a big loss for the Park and Zoo," the zoo's Manager and Curator Jim Moloney tells PTBOCanada. "With their energetic antics and playfulness, the otters are probably the most popular animals with our visitors. Our staff were very fond of Splash and are greatly saddened by her loss."

According to the zoo's Facebook page post, Splash's health deteriorated recently and she did not respond well to treatment. Her death was the result of congestive heart failure.

The Zoo thanks their staff and Dr. John Sallaway for their assistance with Splash's treatment and diagnosis.

Kids and adults alike will forever remember Splash.
