PTBOCanada Feature Post: Explore Peterborough & The Kawarthas By Bike In Great New Video

Building on the recent Economic Development Council of Ontario Award win for their partnership with cycling industry giant Shimano Canada—whose North American Headquarters are in Peterborough—Peterborough & the Kawarthas Tourism has released a brand new promotional video aimed at boosting cycle tourism in the region.

Travel is a visual marketplace: People are making vacation decisions based on compelling images and thought provoking and inspiring video.

Cycling is the kind of experience that allows a person to earn their way through a destination, not only seeing it, but by becoming part of it as they sweat up hills and coast down them.

Cycling a destination gives visitors a unique and intimate view, providing unforgettable memories. This new video (see below) not only showcases the scenic beauty that the Kawarthas is famous for, but also highlights the dynamic cycling opportunities available. This not only appeals to avid cyclists, but to travelers looking for fresh, natural and inspiring places to visit.

Some like to take it easy on flat terrain. Others thrive on the challenge of long distances, deep valleys and steep hills. Some prefer a city ride; others want to be as far from the crowd as possible. That's what makes cycling in Peterborough & the Kawarthas such a pleasure.

Here are 6 cycling experiences that Peterborough & the Kawarthas Tourism recommends on the new Peterborough & the Kawarthas Classics Road Cycling Routes...

1. Try the 45 or 60 km Lakes, Rivers & Cafes routes: The manageable distance and diversity of this route make it a favourite. It’s long enough to spend a day riding but short enough to ride after work.

2. Try The Cottage Country 80 or 100 km routes: This is one of the all-time favourite routes for local cyclists. On this route, riders will get a feel for the farming communities east of Peterborough, as well as the wilderness and cottage country north for which the Kawarthas is renowned for.

3. Try the 65 or 80 km Hills, Views and Pastries routes: The name says it all. This route hits all the best views in southern Peterborough County. The rolling hills offer challenging climbs and rewarding views in every direction. Fresh made pastries are a tasty way to recharge and are accessible at several locations along this ride.

4. Mountain Bike at the Rugged Harold Town Conservation Area: A network over 10 kilometers of mountain biking trails that consist of a circular loop of wide open double track trail, with connecting trails of flowy bermed single-track, technical rock gardens, switch-back climbs, rock pile features, log hops, bridges, small rock drops and tight turns.

5. New Guided Cycling Tours: Starting in May, Wild Rock Outfitters will be offering the Peterborough Classic Tour—a three-day guided cycling experience that starts and finishes in Peterborough and tours riders around the county on three different dates in May, June and September.

6. Try our Trail Mix: In Peterborough & the Kawarthas all roads lead to trails…and more trails. The Trans Canada Trail—the world’s longest recreational trail—connects us to the rest of the country, and our interconnected parks and trails. The trail spans the City and the County, making Peterborough & the Kawarthas a top destination for outdoor adventure.
