New Canadians Centre Peterborough Reaches Out To Community To Help Syrian Refugee Families
/In the past few months, the response from Peterborough in supporting refugee resettlement has been overwhelmingly positive.
There is a long road ahead though, as successful refugee resettlement comes from mutual support and collaboration. Currently, there are 20 groups in the City and County of Peterborough sponsoring about 80 to 100 refugees. Five families have already arrived—and more are expected before the new year.

The New Canadians Centre has created two Refugee Resettlement Coordinator positions from their own reserve funds to assist in the coordination of Syrian refugee resettlement in the community. But they need more help from the community—much more.

It will take the community working together to ensure a healthy integration process for what could be 350 new members in the community, families that have arrived here with nothing but the clothes on their back.
There is a need for partner organizations to help deliver services, teachers to be there for the new students, children to befriend new classmates, and community members to warmly welcome their new neighbours.
The New Canadians Centre is calling on the community to support them as they launch a campaign to raise $150,000 for much needed support in the work of resettling refugees.
