Peterborough & the Kawarthas Tourism, part of Peterborough Economic Development, and Shimano Canada have partnered to create a new, marketable cycle tourism product. The multi-phase project will focus on a series of varied length cycling routes joining the County of Peterborough and the City of Peterborough through a regional cycling signage program and digital route mapping. These permanently sign-posted routes will take riders off of the beaten path, and introduce them to the best roads our region has to offer. The routes utilize scenic country roads throughout the County and tie into a number of trail systems in the City of Peterborough to highlight popular routes which are enjoyed by many of the area’s passionate local cyclists, but are yet to be discovered by visitors to the area—as cycle tourism contines to grow in popularity.

You Could Be A Gold Star Recycler & Win Prizes

This summer, the County and City of Peterborough have joined together and will be performing random inspections of blue boxes looking for Gold Star Recyclers. A Gold Star Recycler is someone who uses two blue boxes to sort their containers from their paper products, and their boxes are sorted correctly with no garbage, hazardous waste or electronics.

If you are a gold star recycler—a rock star of recycling—you will be left a gold star sticker, and will be eligible for some great prizes (see poster below for details on the prizes!).

Today Marks The 17th Anniversary Of The Peterborough Flood: Share Your Memories

On July 15, 2004, Peterborough experienced 175 mm of rainfall over the city. During the hour between 3:30 am and 4:30 am alone, 78.8 mm came down. All hell broke loose. Cars were floating (and some people were trapped in them), basements and buildings were flooded, roofs collapsed under the weight of the rain. A State of Emergency was declared by Mayor Sutherland. It made national and international news. It was a day people who lived here will never forget. There is even a "City of Peterborough Flood 2004 Fact Sheet" about that day.

Share your memories of that day with us here in our comments section, on Twitter @Ptbo_Canada using hashtag #PTBOFlood, and on our Facebook page.

The cougar was captured by MNR officials in a live trap, unharmed, Friday night and is now in quarantine at the zoo.

Peterborough's Star Wars Kittens Are Growing Up And They're The Cutest Thing Ever

Remember that story we told you in June about Ray and Jennifer Henderson saving a female cat—Leia, they called it—that subsequently gave birth to a bunch of kittens that the couple named after Star Wars characters (Ray and Jen are HUGE Star Wars fans)? (If you don't, here it is.) Well Chewie, Lando, Jango, Padme and Wicket (Ooia, unfortunately, passed away) are absolutely adorable. Check out these stunning photos from a J.Lee Photography photoshoot of the "Star Wars Kittens"...
