"SAVE PCVS" Signs Are Popping Up On Lawns Near You

The quest to save PCVS still continues to move forward with passion and drive. You may have noticed these signs around town. They are being made by Jeff and Krista Macklin. If you would like a sign to show your support, send an email to pcvscouncil@hotmail.com. A small donation is greatly appreciated to help cover costs but isn't necessary.

Downtown Parking Meters Are Going All 21st Century

No more trying to park on someone else's dime. The City of Peterborough is slowly removing the old fashioned parking meters, and converting them to the ones that print out receipts to put on your dash.

They are solar powered, but don't feature the ability to accept credit cards like their brethren in Toronto for all day parking (although it is conceivable that these meters can be upgraded to accept credit cards at some point as the compartments are there).

Peterborough Fills Hundreds Of Shoeboxes Again This Year

The Samaritan's Purse: Operation Christmas Child Program wrapped up last week after another successful year of donations throughout the community. Once again this year, I filled a shoebox up with items that will brighten a child's Christmas. Such simple day-to-day items that we take for granted, but will help a child have a Christmas they won't soon forget. There were various collection locations throughout the city; I dropped mine off at Kawartha Lakes Bible College where there were an overwhelming amount of boxes ready to be shipped off for distribution. Peterborough continues to show their giving and helpful nature in so many ways, even more so at this time of year.

Winter Parking Restrictions Have Started in Peterborough

Today marks the beginning of Winter parking restrictions in Peterborough.

  • From December 1- April 1, parking is prohibited on all City streets from 2:00 a.m. – 6:00 a.m. This allows better snow clearing of city streets and at a lower cost because equipment will not have to return to clear areas where vehicles were parked. The fine for a violation is $15.
  •

  • During a snowstorm, when snow-clearing operations are underway, no stopping of a vehicle is permitted on any city street. Snow-clearing operations typically take place between midnight and 8 a.m. The fine is $50 for this violation and your vehicle will be towed. All vehicles will be towed to Morrow Park and must be claimed the following day. After 24hrs all unclaimed vehicles will be towed to an impound yard at the owners expense.

Where does that leave you to park? Free overnight parking is allowed at all Municipal parking lots such as the King Street Parkade and Simcoe Parking Garage. Vehicles parked overnight at either parking garage can obtain a gate arm ticket upon entry to the garage to be used for a free transit trip home.

So remember the rule of thumb... no parking any time of the year on city streets for longer than 3 hours, except where a sign indicates otherwise. If you still have questions, call Parking at 705-742-7777 ext. 2802.

Here's Pictures From Path Of Destruction A Truck Left On Ravenwood Drive Last Night

All the neighbours up on Ravenwood/Wildlark in the west end are talking about the damage a driver did on their street last night. According to the police report, an erratic driver behind the wheel of a truck at around 9:30 p.m. damaged up to 20 lawns, struck 2 vehicles, a light pole, and 2 utility poles. He also knocked down trees. Total damages are in the neighbourhood of $50,000. A 48-year-old man has been charged with Impaired Driving, Dangerous Operation and Fail to Remain. Thank goodness no one was injured.
