Spotlight: New Shop Chasing the Cheese Is A Cheesy Delight

Chasing the Cheese is a new cheese shop that recently opened up in Peterborough at 372 Water Street. Julie Austin started the business from her home with select artisan cheeses that were outside of the norm, but felt that to take things to the next level she needed to open her own store downtown.

Julie's cheese selection—and clientele—had been flourishing for a couple years before she decided to open the store on Water Street. Initially, it was a cheesemaking course that sparked her curiosity about all things cheese, and she found that even though there are basically only four basic ingredients in cheese, there are hundreds of outcomes. Presently her shop carries numerous kinds: Thunder Oak Gouda, Salt Spring Fresh Chevre and Maple Dale 7yr Cheddar, to name a few. Most of the cheeses are local or Made in Canada.

Sampling the various cheeses is a real pleasure, whether it's the unique taste or the way it dissolves on your tongue. Pop in today for a sampling, and let your senses guide you to a cheese that you wouldn't be able to find in your local grocery store.

Julie proudly shows off one of her cheese samples

Chasing the Cheese has the following hours:

Tue & Wed: 11 to 5

Thu & Fri: 11 to 7

Sat: 10 to 5

Sun & Mon: Closed

PtboPics: Jessica Melnik's "Meet The Artist" Showing At Natas Cafe

Local photographer Jessica Melnik is showing her fine art photography at Natas Cafe until October 31st. Jessica held a casual "Meet The Artist" last Thursday at Natas, and while there was no official photographer there documenting the event, her proud father, KRUZ FM's Mike Melnik, snapped the shots below of her and her art on his BlackBerry.

The Peterborough Downtown Farmers' Market Wraps Up 2010 Season This Wednesday

Sniff. Sniff. This Wednesday (October 6th) marks the final day of the Peterborough Downtown Farmers’ Market for this year.

So go to the finale to stock up on your fruits and veggies, get recipe ideas, buy beautiful fall flowers, buy those gifts and crafts you’ve been eyeing all season, run into regulars you know, and to say bye to the vendors (though some of them can be found at the Peterborough Square mall on Wednesday mornings for the winter season).

Chef Ursula Fugger of Windswept B&B in Hastings will be returning to the market to provide an on-site cooking demonstration, along with recipe ideas and tasty samples.

And there will be a raffle, where customers can win their own harvest basket!
