The Art School of Peterborough Hosting An Anniversary Celebration With a 30-Year Milestone
/The Art School of Peterborough is celebrating its 30th anniversary in style on Sept. 21 from 7 to 11 p.m. at The Mount Community Centre.

The event will have all current and previous students with supportive community members with the event open to anyone.
Light refreshments, interactive live art, a photo booth, a DJ and a cash bar will be at the festivities.
It will also showcase a variety of the students’s work of art. Calendars are available for pre-orders and for pick up during the event. They are be $30 each.

Full of award-winning circus-style performers, aerialists, contortionists, jugglers, dancers are performing for family entertainment.
Tickets go on sale on Sept. 20 at 10 a.m. online or in person at the box office. Tickets are priced at $39.50, $54.50 and $69.50 (plus applicable fees; subject to change). There is also a kid’s ticket price of $20.00 for children under the age of 12.

The Basketball Antics of the Harlem Globetrotters Return to the Peterborough Memorial Centre Feb. 5

Players go head-to-head in an exhilarating battle of skills featuring epic dunks, jaw-dropping four-point shots and more.
Fan engagement continues with pre-game offerings such as the Magic Pass with post-game access and more in-game fan interactions.
Tickets go on sale on Sept. 30 at 10 a.m. online. PMC Scoop members will have access to presale tickets online on Sept. 23 at 10 a.m. and in-person for Sept. 29 at 10 p.m.

The Kawartha World Issues Centre To Celebrate 35 Years at Market Hall On Oct. 29
/In celebration of their 35th year, Kawartha World Issues Centre, their event and fundraiser ‘Think Global, Act Local: 35 Years of KWIC’ is being held at Market Hall on Oct. 29 at 6 p.m.

The event will celebrate KWIC’s rich history and look ahead to the future.There is a keynote speech from Larissa Crawford, founder and managing director of Future Ancestors Inc. It will address the importance of youth voices in the fight for social and environmental justice according to a press release.
“This is an opportunity to celebrate KWIC’s amazing work in the Peterborough community,” said Dr. Stephanie Rutherford, Chair of the 35th Anniversary Committee and Vice-Chair of the Board. “Join us to reflect on the work of this remarkable organization that’s been making positive change for the last 35 years.”
This event will also feature a performance by Mimi O’Bonsawin, a contemporary roots singer-songwriter born in Northeastern Ontario with mixed French Canadian and Abénaki heritage and a member of Odanak First Nation.
Attendees can also support KWIC’s ongoing fundraising efforts by participating in the silent auction which boasts a number of kindly donated prizes. This includes personal training sessions, a Yankee Candle gift hamper and some exclusive vintage KWIC swag.
KWIC invites all community members to attend Think Global, Act Local and discuss the future of advocacy and the role of young people in creating change.

Peterborough and District Labour Council Hosting Free Labour Day BBQ at Nicholls Oval
/The Peterborough and District Labour Council (PDLC) is hosting a free Labour Day BBQ at Nicholls Oval on Monday from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

There will be music, children’s entertainment and food at the event.
The theme for this year’s event is ‘Workers Together: For a Better Deal.’ Labour activists and their families from across the county will gather for the occasion according to a press release.
“We’ve made significant progress at the federal level on key issues like anti-scab legislation, pharmacare, and sustainable jobs. These achievements are a testament to what workers can achieve when we come together,” said Dave Warda, PDLC president.
Karen Littlewood, Ontario Secondary School Teachers’ Federation president, will be a guest at the BBQ.
