2013 Peterborough Folk Festival Holding Pop-Up Concerts In The Downtown

PFF13_JOEL (1).jpg

The 2013 Peterborough Folk Festival is just around the corner, and apart from a full day Saturday, August 24th, at Nicholls Oval with music, food, workshops and an artisan village, the entire weekend has events worth checking out with friends and family.

From Friday, August 23th to Sunday, August 25th, the Peterborough Folk Festival will take place in venues across Peterborough. Friday is the Kick Off with a first-ever Pop-Up concert series which leads festival goers to four shows in four downtown businesses. Each stop brings participants closer to the feature concert at The Market Hall, starring Joel Plaskett (pictured in poster image above). Tickets for Joel Plaskett are on sale at The Market Hall and Moondance Records and are $25. The Pop-Up series, however, is free.

“This is a fun way to bring the Folk Festival right downtown, and to support local musicians and businesses,” says Nick Ferrio, Artistic Director of the Peterborough Folk Festival. “The idea is to have a travelling caravan of festival goers visiting the four Pop-Up concerts at local shops and restaurants, which will eventually end up at The Market Hall for our feature concert.”

The likes of Hollow Hills, Jos. Fortin, Dave Tough, and Michael C Duguay will be performing in charming venues in the downtown core. Each Pop-Up concert will last approximately 20 minutes. Folk Fest volunteers will lead participants to each venue.

Why Hootenanny 2013 Was One Of The Best Damn Things To Ever Happen In Peterborough

The weather, the bands, the vendors, the bars, the restaurants, the community spirit, the conversation, the dancing, the smiles, the laughter, the high fives, the hugs, the love. Yes, Hootenanny 2013 on Hunter Street—one of the best streets anywhere—on Saturday (August 10th) was one of those magical days that show what this community is made of. It was beautiful. It was inspiring. It was positive. It was a bucket list moment in time. It was a day people who were there will be talking about for years to come. And it came to a dramatic, euphoric, frenzied goosebumps ending with The Spades rocking their last show ever (see picture above by rock star photographer Michael Hurcomb) in front of thousands of appreciative people fully engrossed in the moment. No one wanted it to end. No one wanted this day to end. Perhaps Maren Fine summed it up best on Twitter when she said "Wish I could bottle all the energy and enthusiasm generated by in yesterday !!" Here's what people have said about it on Twitter...

John Grant Jr. Has Burger Featured At Hard Rock Cafe In Denver

Below is a video of Peterborough's John Grant Jr. (take a look at his trick shots, too) making the Legendary Mammoth Burger, which will be available for a limited time at the Hard Rock Cafe in Denver. The burger includes 24 ingredients (Grant's number in lacrosse). He will also be taking on all challengers in a speed eating contest. Grant, of course, stars for the Peterborough Lakers in the MSL and plays pro with the Colorado Mammoth in the National Lacrosse League.

Colorado Mammoth forward John Grant Jr. created a 'Legendary' Burger at Hard Rock Cafe Denver, featuring 24 ingredients. Delicious!!!
