Two Peterborough Officers Suffer Minor Injuries In Three-Vehicle Collision; Peterborough Man Given Multiple Charges
/Two officers were injured in a three-vehicle collision while a 30-year-old Peterborough man is facing numerous charges from Sunday evening.
At roughly 6:20 p.m., police received a call about a vehicle being driven erratically — including into oncoming traffic — before it entered a parking lot just north of Water Street and University Heights Boulevard.
An officer located the vehicle in question in the parking lot and was approaching it when the vehicle collided with the police cruiser and continued driving. A second officer with lights and sirens on was on Water Street attempting to stop the vehicle when it collided with a second police cruiser. The first officer was able to get in front of the vehicle again when the driver stopped and fled on foot.
Both officers received minor injuries but were able to get out of their vehicles. One climbed out the passenger side because of the damage. They chased the suspect a short distance away and took him into custody.
A search of the vehicle was conducted, and officers seized:
5.9 grams of cocaine
5.8 grams of fentanyl
70 oxycodone pills
Canadian Currency
Drug Paraphernalia
During the arrest, officers also noticed signs of impairment with the driver.
The suspect was arrested and charged with:
Operation while impaired - drugs
Dangerous operation
Flight from peace officer
Possession property obtained by crime under $5,000
Operation while prohibited under the criminal code
Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking- oxycodone
Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking-fentanyl
Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – cocaine
Driving while under suspension - while suspended
