Don't Put Your Blue Boxes Curbside Until Collection Day Or They Might Blow Away

Strong and gusty winds are forecasted to continue throughout the week. The City of Peteborough has issued a release asking residents to please hold onto your blue boxes until the morning of their collection, 7 a.m. set-out time—rather than setting them out the night before. This will help to reduce recyclables and blue boxes being blown around the streets.

Also, residents are encouraged to write their address on their blue boxes, so they can be identified and returned if they should blow away. There is a $5 fee to replace lost blue boxes, which are available at City Hall, 500 George Street North and the Material Recycling Facility, 390 Pido Road (cash only).

From a City of Peterborough alert today...

Blowing Recyclables
High winds are forecast to continue throughout today and tomorrow. Residents who have collection on Wednesday are asked to please hold onto your blue boxes until Wednesday morning, rather than setting them out the night before. This will help to reduce blowing recyclables and blue boxes.
Try not to over-fill blue boxes, and place paper and flattened cardboard sideways in your "Fiber and Plastic Film" box, rather than piling upwards. Do your best to place lighter materials in a secure spot (e.g. put clear plastic trays underneath heavier steel and glass containers).
Residents are encouraged to write their address on their blue boxes, so they can be identified and returned if they should blow away from your property. Lost blue boxes cannot be replaced for free.
