UPDATED: A Small Plane Crashed At The Intersection Of Lansdowne & High Street Early This Morning

UPDATE: Police say that the small plane that crashed onto Lansdowne St. Friday morning was stolen from a rural airport in York Region. Police confirm the pilot—a man in his twenties—was the only person on board. The police do not know if the pilot had any previous flying experience, nor what caused the crash—though it was clear the pilot was trying to land the plane on the street. The deceased male has been identified—he is from the GTA—and police are notifying next of kin.

Pilot Taken to PRHC Following Plane Crash At Peterborough Airport

From a Loomex Group media release today (June 7th)...

The pilot of a small passenger plane has been taken to Peterborough Regional Health Centre (PRHC) following an incident at the Peterborough Airport this morning.

Airport staff became aware that the plane was having engine trouble at approximately 9:00 am this morning. Police, fire and EMS and airport staff responded and discovered that a small plane had crashed into the swampy area to the east of the main runway.

Emergency crews removed the pilot, the lone occupant of the plane, who is a local pilot and know to airport staff. He was then transported to PRHC, his injuries are unknown at this time.

Damage to the plane is also unknown at this time. The Loomex Group and Peterborough Airport staff will be working on removing the aircraft from the swamp over the 24 hours.

All runways have been reopened.
