“The foundation was created in memory of Dani Sinacori who passed away in August. As a mother of 3 and teacher to many, her life was sports, teaching and family,” said Y Drive in a Facebook post. “The foundation will be geared towards school breakfast programs, youth sports and helping our neighbours when they need it.”

Participants had the chance to dunk the likes of:

  • Adam Brown (Chemong Lodge)

  • David Bui (PTBO Canada)

  • Diane Therrien (Mayor of Peterborough)

  • Jessie Primeau (Bowes & Cocks)

  • Rob & Erica (Y Drive)

According to Erica Young of Y Drive, $1160 was raised from the event and additional donations.

Local Rideshare and Food Delivery Service To Hold Job Fair On Saturday

Y Drive is looking to employ delivery and rideshare drivers at their hiring fair at the Peterborough Square offices on the third floor on Saturday.

The hiring fair will run from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at 360 George St. where applicants can optionally bring their resumé.

The local company wants roughly 25 drivers for their rideshare program. In addition, they want to add another 20-30 delivery drivers for Y Drive Eats and have already hired 20 to start.

“Demand is so high, we need those people to keep growing,” said Joel Potter, Y Drive Eats owner.

Rideshare drivers must be at least 25, have a G license and have a newer vehicle. Delivery drivers do not have to meet those requirements.

Employees can work delivery or rideshare but not simultaneously on the same shift.

The delivery service starts on Tuesday with roughly eight restaurants to start. A new restaurant will be announced daily beginning in March for 30 days to be available for the delivery service.

Rob Davidson, Y Drive owner says his service will charge less to the restaurants.

"We actually got to know a lot of restaurant owners via Ydrive, said Davidson. "They are running into an issue where they are getting a lot of food out but not making any money. It allows our restaurant community to grow which is beneficial for us as customers and it also allows us to employ local drivers to do local work and make local money."

Vietnamese restaurant Hanoi House is one of the first businesses available for Y Drive delivery.

“I’m excited that there is a local option that charges a reasonable commission rate to restaurants,” said Susan Tung, Hanoi House owner. “People don’t realize how much money restaurants lose yearly to these large third-party apps. At least the money is now kept in the community so that is something we can all get behind.”

On Feb. 19, Y Drive started delivering for LCBO during their business hours.

Paramedic Takeout Program: DBIA and Y Drive PTBO Collaborate To Feed Isolating Paramedics

Contactless food delivery from downtown restaurants is now available to Peterborough City-County Paramedics isolating from their friends and families at the Holiday Inn Waterfront, thanks to a new Paramedic Takeout Program by the Peterborough Downtown Business Improvement Area and Y-Drive PTBO.

“The Downtown Business Improvement Area is delighted to be working with the Peterborough City-County Paramedics to feed our front-line workers,” says Terry Guiel, Executive Director of the DBIA. “We have a bounty of amazing restaurants for our paramedics to choose from while in isolation. Food is the most basic form of comfort and we are so incredibly pleased to be spreading a little joy to our isolating paramedics at this time.”

“Along with the DBIA’s Paramedic Takeout Program administrative support, we now have a beautifully designed takeout menu with a plethora of options made specifically for our paramedics,” adds Peterborough County Warden, J. Murray Jones. “Our Paramedics do so much for us. It is so great to provide this for them, and at the same time contribute to local businesses.”

The Peterborough City-County Paramedics set aside funds for meals and accommodation to support the Paramedics through isolation. “Our paramedic team is giving all they’ve got and it’s our responsibility to accommodate them in these uncertain times,” adds PCCP Chief Randy Mellow. “We are very grateful to the DBIA, the downtown restaurants, Y Drive and the Holiday Inn for helping us look after them.”

Y Drive PTBO—a local app-based delivery service—stepped up to support the takeout program, providing free delivery for any participating restaurant unable to deliver foodstuffs themselves.

“Now, more than ever, we need to support our front-line workers—offering free delivery through this program allows Y Drive PTBO to give back to those who are working hard to safeguard our community health,” say Rob Davidson and Erica Young, co-owners and operators of Y Drive PTBO.
