Finalists Announced For Peterborough and the Kawarthas Chamber of Commerce 2024 Business Excellence Awards

Peterborough and the Kawarthas Chamber of Commerce has announced the finalists for the 2024 Business Excellence Awards where the winners will be announced in a ceremony at The Venue on Oct. 29.

The awards publicly recognize and honour local businesses and business people who have demonstrated a passion for excellence.

The evening begins with a reception at The Venue, followed by the ceremony at Showplace Performance Centre. Megan Murphy will host the event, which will award prizes in 22 categories, including the prestigious Business Citizen of the Year. 

“Excellence is out there, throughout our local business community in Peterborough and the Kawarthas,” says Sarah Budd, Chamber president and CEO. “It’s so important to recognize the hard work, innovation, resilience, and impact of our local businesses and business leaders, and this annual celebration does just that.”

Peterborough and the Kawarthas Chamber of Commerce has opened nominations for the 2024 Business Excellence Awards.

“In Peterborough and the Kawarthas, excellence is out there,” said Sarah Budd, Chamber President and CEO. “In restaurants, tourist attractions, retail shops, offices, and not-for-profits; on construction sites, family farms, and making service calls. We encourage everyone to take a moment to recognize the businesses and organizations that make our community great.”

Express and self-nomination forms are available online.

Early Bird deadline end on May 8 at 4:30 p.m. Early Bird nominations are entered into a draw to win a $100 gift card for the Chamber member business of your choice.

Final Deadline is May 22 at 4:30 p.m.

Three Finalists in each category will be announced in August, with the award recipients announced live on the big stage – Oct. 29th at Showplace Performance Centre.

The Business Excellence Awards were established to promote the advancement of responsible business leadership within the community. Awards will be handed out in over 20 categories including the prestigious Business Citizen of the Year Award.

Businesses and individuals within the City and County of Peterborough are eligible, and do not need to be members of the Chamber of Commerce.

Nominations are now open for the Peterborough and the Kawarthas Chamber of Commerce’s 2022 Business Excellence Awards.

Categories for business nominations include Commercial Development or Renovation, Customer First, Employer of the Year, Entrepreneurial Spirit, Farm Family of the Year, Green Initiatives, Health & Wellness, Hospitality, Local Focus, Marketing & Promotion, Micro Business, New Canadian Entrepreneur of the Year, Not-for-profit, Professional Services, Retail, Skilled Trades, and Tourism.

Individuals are also eligible to be nominated in categories like Business Citizen of the Year, 4-Under-40 Profiles, New Canadian Entrepreneur of the Year, Businesswoman of the Year – Entrepreneur, and Businesswoman of the Year – Organization.

Nomination forms are available at pkexcellence.ca. The deadline to nominate a business or individual is at 4:30 p.m. on May 25.

Three finalists in each category will be announced in August. The winners will be announced in the fall.

Peterborough Chamber Wins Two National Awards At AGM In Regina

The Peterborough Chamber of Commerce won two National awards on the weekend at the Annual General Meeting of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce and the Chamber of Commerce Executives of Canada held in Regina, Saskatchewan.

On Saturday, Peterborough Chamber CEO Stuart Harrison and Manager of Membership Services Karen August made a presentation to a packed room of Chamber staff and volunteers from across the Country as one of three finalists in the annual Chamber Competition. The Calgary Chamber was awarded Gold, the Peterborough Chamber Silver, and the Burnaby Chamber Bronze.

“Each year, the Canadian Chamber chooses a different theme for this competition," Stuart Harrison says. "This year the theme was 'Membership in the age of Google' and we were chosen for the strategy and techniques we employ to communicate the business message to both our members and the public at large."

Sandra Dueck

On Friday night, Peterborough Chamber Policy Analyst and Communication Specialist Sandra Dueck was awarded the Employee of the Year award.

The award is presented annually at the Chamber of Commerce Executives of Canada awards dinner. Sandra was recognized for the work she has done to help the Peterborough Chamber amplify issues of importance to business at all three levels of Government.

“Sandra is part of a high performance team at the Peterborough Chamber and we are very proud of her accomplishment," says Chamber CEO Stuart Harrison.
