Ennismore Community Centre Celebrates 50th Anniversary
/Community members and Selwyn Township council and staff gathered to celebrate the 50-year anniversary of the construction of the Ennismore Community Centre on Sunday.
Deputy Mayor Sherry Senis, Ennismore Ward Councillor Donna Ballantyne, local historian Paul Crough and community members whose families were instrumental in helping build the centre celebrated the milestone with the unveiling of a commemorative plaque.
In October 1972, the community of Ennismore came together with the goal of providing indoor recreational space in the area. It was a big community effort, with residents and local businesses donating their time, money, labour and equipment, and the municipality (Township of Ennismore at the time) donated profits from the sale of surplus lands while the province provided a grant towards the project.
Since the original building was constructed, the Community Centre has seen several renovations, each one reinvigorating Ennismore’s community spirit and generosity.

Ennismore Cares Challenges Community To Get #WheelingForMark As They Near Their $20,000 Goal
/With the support of the community and local fundraising group ‘Ennismore Cares’, over $16,000 of a$20,000 goal has been raised for Mark Mose, a six year old boy battling a rare disease.
Ennismore Cares is a group of community members that have come together with the goal of supporting Mark and the Mose family to ease the financial burden that is associated with Mark's diagnosis of an ultra rare disease.
“It is incredibly heartwarming, yet not surprising, to see that our community has shown up for this beautiful boy and his family.” said the Ennismore Cares 2022 Chair, Marcy D'Alessandro. “The Mose family is incredibly grateful for all their support and are overwhelmed by the response thus far.”
The second phase of the campaign is a cartwheel challenge, #wheelingformark.
A new Go Fund Me has been created so that the Mose Family has funds for future travel and medical costs. The goal for the second phase is $6,000 which will surpass the total fundraising goal of $20,000.
Local community members are challenged to film themselves on social media, complete a cartwheel, donate $25 to the campaign and challenge 3 other community members to do the same.
Over 400 students at Mark’s school, St. Martin Catholic Elementary School in Ennismore, kicked off the challenge on Tuesday, challenging other schools in the region to do the same.
Funds raised will go towards the purchase of a hospital bed for Mark and a lift system to make the Mose home more accessible.

Ennismore Curling Club Hosts Try Curling Day
/The Ennismore Curling Club is inviting anyone that wants to try their hand at the sport to join them at their Try Curling Event on Sunday from 2 p.m. - 4 p.m.
A group of volunteers from the curling club will be at Sunday’s event to help newcomers step onto the ice for the first time and to offer tours of the club.
“We’re hoping that people who might think it fun to try curling will perhaps step on the ice, hold a rock, slide down the ice,” said Peter Gardiner, vice-chair, Ennismore Curling Club. “This would be an opportunity for them to understand how it works.”
After the event, participants are able to sign up for the Learn to Curl Program, an eight-week program that will begin Oct. 24.
After the Learn to Curl Program participants are welcome to join a social league that will begin in January.
“We find that in the middle of a dark winter’s night, it’s fun to get out to a social event and a physical activity,” said Gardiner. “It’s mostly to come out and meet with good friends, meet new friends and also to stay active.”
Participants are asked to bring clean running shoes that have not been worn outside. Anyone under 19 is required to wear protective headgear, though it is suggested that anyone stepping onto the ice to wear a helmet.
Sunday’s event is free and open to all ages.
