Peterborough Petes prospect Eli Palfreyman passed away during a Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League preseason tournament game on Tuesday.
The forward passed out in a locker room during an intermission according to multiple reports. Medical staff were unable to resuscitate him and medical officials have not released details regarding Palfreyman’s death out respect for his family.
Palfreyman was selected by the Petes 223rd overall in the 12th round from the Cambridge Hawks in the 2018 OHL Priority Selection. The Cambridge, Ont. native was captain of the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League’s (GOJHL) Ayr Centennials.
The forward has attended several Petes training and development camps. He was a high-level soccer player growing up and a baseball enthusiast.
“Our deepest sympathies go out to Eli’s family and all of his teammates and staff with Ayr,” said Michael Oke, Petes general manager. “We’re keeping them in our thoughts and prayers.”
