Oshawa Teen Taken Into Custody After Allegedly Stealing a Vehicle and Crashing It

A 13-year-old Oshawa male is facing a number of charges after an incident Tuesday morning.

At roughly 6:45 a.m., officers were called about a vehicle stolen from a residence in the Arndon Avenue and Monaghan Road area and a bicycle left in its place. 

An officer on general patrol spotted the vehicle at a traffic light on Lansdowne Street. When the officer activated the emergency lights, the vehicle took off through the red light at a high rate of speed. The officer followed but the pursuit was called off for safety reasons and officers lost sight of the vehicle.

Police received a call shortly after regarding a collision at the corner of Highway 7 and Lansdowne Street. Officers attended and noticed a vehicle matching the description of the stolen vehicle upside down in the ditch. They were directed to the driver who was sitting nearby. As the driver was assessed by EMS at the scene, officers learned that there were two warrants out for his arrest.

As a result of the investigation, a 13-year-old Oshawa male was arrested on the strength of the warrants and further charged with:

  • Dangerous operation

  • Flight from peace officer

  • Theft of Motor Vehicle

  • Fail to Comply with Sentence

Highway Traffic Act Charges

  • Drive motor vehicle - no licence

  • Drive Motor Vehicle - Perform stunt - Excessive speed

  • Red light - fail to stop X2

  • Drive wrong way - divided highway

The accused was held in custody and appeared in court on Tuesday.
