Newcastle Teen Charged With Impaired Driving During RIDE Check Weekend
/An 18-year-old Newcastle man has been charged with impaired driving charges during a RIDE check on Saturday night.

At roughly 11:20 p.m. officers conducted a RIDE check on Water Street near Carnegie Avenue. The 18-year-old Newcastle man was stopped and as a result, he was charged with:
Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
The driver was also issued two provincial offence notices for:
Person under 19 years having liquor (Liquor Licence Act)
Driving motor vehicle with open container of liquor (Liquor Licence Act)
The accused was issued an automatic 90-day licence suspension and seven-day vehicle impoundment.
The accused was released on an appearance notice and is scheduled to appear in court on April 22.
Officers with the Peterborough Police Service conducted two RIDE details over the weekend.
In total, 1,194 vehicles were stopped in three locations in the City of Peterborough.
Saturday night:
200 vehicles were checked
15 sobriety tests were administered
1 person was charged with impaired
1 person received a warning
Sunday night:
994 vehicles were checked
11 sobriety tests were administered
