The Lakers sent rookie defenceman Zach Young to the Brooklin Lacrosse Club to retain the rights to Mark Matthews, who was originally picked up for a one-year-only deal in 2019 to help the run for the Mann Cup. Matthews became an integral part of the team, and is now a Laker until the end of the 2023 season.

Next, the Lakers traded a third-round pick to Owen Sound for veteran defenceman Paul Dawson.

“Dawson brings leadership, toughness and experience that will help our group at both ends of the floor,” said general manager Paul Day.

Dawson is the captain of the Mike Hasen-coached Rochester Knighthawks, and plays with Turner Evans, Holden Cattoni, Matt Gilray, Thomas Hoggarth and Mitch Ogilvie in the winter NLL season.

Dawson will make his debut on July 13 when the Lakers visit the Brooklin Lacrosse Club. He last played in the MSL in 2017 for the Six Nations Chiefs.

The Lakers re-signed goaltender Doug Buchan, who helped the Lakers win the 2018 Mann Cup. Matt Vinc requires more time to rehab from an injury sustained in the NLL Finals, and Mike Poulin will miss some upcoming games with work commitments.

The Lakers are next in action this Thursday at 8 p.m. when the Cobourg Kodiaks pay a visit to the Memorial Centre.

Tickets are available at the PMC box office.
