Two Guys In Peterborough Just Created An Epic Way, Eh, To Grab Beers During Physical Distancing Era

We’ve seeing so much innovation happening during this physical distancing era from business to how we socialize. Virtual pints with friends over Zoom has become en vogue but a couple buddies in Peterborough, Marty Silvestri and Shaun Vincent, wanted to still meet up in the real world so they MacGyvered a swing-down bar out of their shared fence.

“Our neighbours Shaun and his wife Brittany are not only our neighbours in Peterborough but also at our trailer at Grandview Park,” Marty tells PTBOCanada. “Shaun has a bar at the trailer on his site that is called Dr. Feelgood Bar & Grill where we usually hang out and enjoy some food and drinks. With the uncertainty of how we are going to be able to socialize at the trailer, conversations starting happening about what our summer might look like if we were going to be stuck at home.”

Fast forward a few days later: Marty’s wife Nicole spotted a video online of a fence bar and had tagged the friends in it (or so she thought), but forgot to actually hit the “send” button to the group.

“The next morning while outside, Brittany asked if we had seen the video online about a fence bar and we all laughed at the fact that although Nicole had great intentions, she clearly got easily sidetracked. We also were evidently very much on the same page,” Silvestri tells PTBOCanada.

After some further discussion, presuambly over pints, the group all agreed it would be a great idea to build a fence bar, and Shaun mentioned that one thing the video was lacking was a table for both sides so they needed to somehow include that.

“We came up with a list of supplies that included some chain, some latches and some brackets, which in the end came to a whopping total of $120,” says Silvestri, who works at Pure Country 105 in Peterborough.

“The bonus about having access on both sides is that we each have our own table section and therefore did not have to flip a coin to decide which way it would fall,” adds Silvestri.

Now that the fence bar portion is complete, naturally there are decor plans in the works. The couples are discussing what to add next, and that includes some lighting and stools to complete the look.

“The reaction so far has been crazy to the fence bar, and Shaun and I may have to open a side business,” jokes Silvestri.

After all, every pandemic needs a great side hustle like this. Cheers guys.
