PTBOCanada Featured Post: Lakefield College School Has Big News

Anne-Marie Kee

For the twelfth time in their 137-year history, Lakefield College School will welcome a new Head of School/Head of Foundation to its community.

Anne-Marie Kee joins LCS this August, just before fall classes resume, bringing with her an exceptional range of experience and passion for education and leadership.

Anne-Marie Kee is a very familiar face in the world of education, having served for more than a decade as Executive Director of The Canadian Accredited Independent Schools (CAIS), an association of 95 of the nation’s top independent day and boarding schools.

Anne-Marie has collaborated with education leaders across North America, introducing a number of initiatives that aim to challenge schools to continually improve, examining all aspects of program and operations, including innovative learning, student engagement and wellness, governance and risk.

She is also a parent at LCS, as her son, Jacob, has been enrolled in the school since 2013, and her daughter, Kathleen, attended LCS for Grade 9. LCS is thrilled to welcome her to lead the community!

EXPLORE LCS AT OPEN HOUSE ON APRIL 29th

On April 29th, Lakefield College School—affectionately known by generations of alumni as "The Grove"—is opening its doors for prospective students and their families to see what makes it one of Canada’s finest independent schools.

The Open House will offer plenty of opportunity for prospective students to learn more about the school’s highly-respected academics, athletics and arts programs, as well as its long-held commitment to developing leadership and character in students.

Encouraging rigour, developing resourcefulness and building resiliency are key aspects of the program, which prepares students for university and success in life. There is no better place to experience challenge, success and failure than in a safe and caring community.

AN INNOVATIVE EDUCATIONAL EXPERIENCE

The LCS program is not your typical 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. educational experience. The schedule offers up to 90 minutes per day of flexible time, called “Grove Time,” which allows for enrichment activities such as leadership development, guidance, clubs or extra help.

Students enjoy individualized learning support while being immersed in experiences that focus on educating the whole student, including a full range of extra and cocurricular activities.

With both on-campus living and day school opportunities, students thrive during their time at LCS. They receive support from a caring team of academic advisors and guidance counsellors to help them discover the perfect post-secondary plan for their needs and interests.

LCS is proud of their graduates, all of whom received offers of admission to exceptional post-secondary institutions from around the world where they continue to follow their passion in a variety of fields.

Located just 20 minutes north of Peterborough, and two hours from Toronto, the school’s beautiful natural campus is situated in the heart of cottage country on the edge of the rugged Canadian Shield. This provides a fantastic outdoor classroom—equipped with 315 acres of beautiful grounds, lake (Katchewanooka), fields, forests and small village-like residences.

The Open House—starting at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 29th—will allow people to tour through the campus’ academic and boarding facilities; learn more about LCS’s international service projects, outdoor education, cocurricular arts and athletics programs; and see first-hand why students love it at Lakefield College School!

Staff, students and parents will be on hand throughout the Open House to answer questions and share information about the unique lessons, personalized learning, small student-teacher ratios, and the friendly, welcoming community.

LCS OFFERS FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE

One thing that many might not know about LCS is that they offer financial assistance to one in every 4 students. LCS is committed to ensuring that outstanding students have the opportunity to attend and is proud of the unprecedented support it is able to offer its students.

Approximately $1.9 million in partial financial assistance is offered annually thanks in large part to funds made available through the support of alumni and friends of the school committed to paying-it-forward to the next generation. The sense of community and friendship is strong on campus, which is just another thing you’ll be sure to experience when you visit!

The doors open at 10 a.m. on the 29th at the campus located at 4391 County Road 29, just North of the Village of Lakefield, Ontario. All are welcome to attend to learn why Lakefield College School should be at the top of their list of educational opportunities offering students support to achieve everything imaginable in the future.

Lakefield College School is still accepting applications for enrolment for 2017/18!
