We have heard whispers over the years of a pedestrian tunnel to be constructed in the downtown. Last week, we spotted this drawing left on a nice table at a Peterborough coffee shop on Hunter Street.

We zoomed in to take this picture as well before anyone spotted us...

It does definitely point to plans for a pedestrian tunnel system being developed. While city officials refused comment, one source told us that yes there are plans to build off the existing tunnel between PCVS and the Armoury dating from the 1930s—a tunnel that was intended to facilitate cadets from the school who would be saved outside movement in tough times, historican Elwood Jones tells PTBOCanada. (See more pictures of the old tunnel here.)

What are your thoughts on a pedestrian tunnel? Do you think it makes any sense? Wise investment? Good draw to get even more people downtown? It was a cold winter, so it'd be neat in the winter months to keep us all warm being underground. Tell us your thoughts on our Facebook page.
