Message of Hope: Peterborough Pride Week 2016 Theme Is Love Wins

Peterborough Pride Week will take place this year from September 16th to 25th, culminating in the Pride Parade which will start at City Hall and make its way down George Street to Millennium Park on Saturday the 24th.

In Peterborough, Pride has been celebrated since 2003 when then mayor Sylvia Sutherland first proclaimed Pride Day. Since then, Peterborough Pride has grown to a week of events taking place in mid-September each year. Pride Week will be proclaimed officially with a flag raising by Mayor Daryl Bennett at noon on September 16th at City Hall.

Peterborough Pride 2016 theme is “Love Wins”. It is a message of hope that whatever happens, if we focus on Love which we all need people will make the right choices and positive change is inevitable over time.

“The LGBTQ+ community is diverse, so Peterborough Pride tries to be reflective of that by welcoming individuals and groups from the community to host events with programming that reflects the spectrum of interests within the community,” says Peterborough Pride organizer Rick Lambert. “Pride events provide a space for participants to gather, share ideas, support each other, and have fun in a safe and accepting environment.”

Pride Week kicks off on Friday, September 16th. For detailed event listing and more about Peterborough Pride, go to peterboroughpride.ca.
