Peterborough father Nathan Ferguson went in for a CT scan recently for issues he was having with his stomach and was shocked to find out that he had a massive tumor the size of a grapefruit attached to his liver artery and a peach sized tumor on his liver.
He has been diagnosed with desmoplastic small-round-cell sarcoma. This cancer is extremely rare and aggressive—there are only 200 confirmed cases in the world. It is incurable but the family is staying positive he will be able to get chemo and help to maybe put him in remission.
This young father has lost 40 pounds already and because he doesn't have much energy to do daily activities, he is not working. His wife, Cassie, is home taking care of him and their two small children, Noah and Hannah.
The community is now rallying around this young family during this trying time. As Nathan is off work during his long stretch of treatments, there is a benefit for Nathan at Shots [**UPDATE August 31st: the benefit is now at Club 7oh5 downtown in the old Sin City location to accomodate more people**], on Saturday, September 10th at 8 p.m., and a GoFundMe campaign has been launched to help the family with finances.
Please spread the word on your social media channels about these fundraisers, and help the family stay positive during this difficult time.
