PTBOCanada Feature Post: 5 Great Reasons Lakefield College School Is the High School For You

Every day at The Grove (aka Lakefield College School or LCS), students learn new and exciting things about themselves and their world.

Below we share a few things you may not have realized about The Grove's beautiful day and boarding school on the lake...

1. LCS Offers a One-of-a-kind Learning Environment

LCS rests on a pristine lake, surrounded by breathtaking forests and fields. Unrivalled for academic excellence, LCS offers a one-of-a-kind learning environment.

Students at LCS don’t just appreciate their Lakefield experience—they forever look back on it with fondness and joy. At Lakefield College School, an outstanding academic reputation is just the starting point. It’s in their nature to nurture a strong sense of community and a lifelong love of the outdoors that prepares students not only for university but also for happy, fulfilling lives.

2. Great Kids Flourish in Great Environments

The best and most interesting learning environments are rich in diversity.

LCS is incredibly proud of the fact that more than 25 percent of its students receive need-based bursaries—the direct result of hundreds of donations from alumni, families and friends who love LCS and want to share it with great kids.

Having access to financial assistance means that Lakefield College School is full of young people eager to make a difference.

3. LCS Teachers Are Amazing!

Teachers are the heart and soul of the great things that happen at LCS—in the class, on the field, in the residences or on the stage.

Their teachers love to learn too, almost as much as they love to teach. Pursuing unique professional development opportunities, LCS teachers enjoy exploring innovative ways to teach and for their students to learn experientially.

4. LCS Has The Support Of A Generous Community

Many people may not realize that LCS is a registered not-for-profit independent school and that means they rely on the generosity and support of LCS alumni, families and friends to fund bursaries, build buildings, enhance learning opportunities and support a wide variety of other new initiatives that make the school different.

LCS is so grateful to their generous supporters whose gifts to the school total an average of $5 million per year. These gifts allow LCS to provide their students with enriched programming and an outstanding learning environment.

5. Students Love LCS And It Shows

Every year, their senior School Life Class coordinates and hosts between 80 and 100 “spirit” events for all students. With community-building as their focus, students handle all aspects of event planning from project management, venue selection and preparation, risk management, budgets and food coordination, to post-event feedback and debriefs (including “fun-metre” assessments).

The campus shines during the fall, winter and spring as the perfect backdrop for these fun and engaging activities. Learn more here.

“School Life Class has taught students how to work together to create events for the entire school. This involves coordinating with teachers, other student leaders, and encouraging school-wide participation. Mostly, however, it’s about cooperation and enthusiasm; it encourages enduring positivity, kindness and presence. In the class, we come to learn about the intricacies of teams and the challenges and benefits of being young leaders.” —Juliet Gardner ’15. Learn more here.
