Trent University & Community Mourn The Loss Of Student Adrian Stenner

The Trent community is mourning the loss of Adrian Stenner. Adrian, 21, was a third-year Physics student at Trent University who was a member of Gzowski College. Adrian battled depression and his family wanted to share this message:

"Adrian Stenner was an exceptionally kind, intelligent, creative and empathetic young man. He was excited to continue his learning in his third year in Physics and Astronomy here at Trent. Adrian was an extraordinary musician and was passionate about astronomy, history, classics, and politics. He was loving, and dearly loved by his extended family and friends in Canada and Peru.

Adrian struggled with depression and though he received support from his family and some support from the mental health system, his internal fight was often silent. We could be mad and upset about his death, but instead we take this traumatic event as an opportunity to raise awareness and encourage people to talk about mental health.

Mental health is the silent fight that one in five Canadians experience in their lifetimes.

It is a difficult step for a struggling individual to reach out for help. Though Adrian’s struggle is now over, we want to shed light on the local services available, in addition to those at Trent University:

  • Four County Community Mental Health Crisis Response Program: 705-745-6484 or 1-866-995-9933. Offers 24-hour telephone support and a mobile outreach team 11:00-19:00.

  • Canadian Mental Health Association, Peterborough: (705) 748-6711 or 1 (866) 990-9956. Offers case management and a variety of mental health services

  • Peterborough Regional Health Centre: Emergency Room to speak with professional or self refer to Outpatient Mental Health programs

  • Victim Services Peterborough: For those that experienced a recent trauma(705) 748-0324

We encourage people to support mental health services and resources in their community, to help ensure that those who need support are able to access it. Donations on Adrian’s behalf are being accepted for ‘Team 55’ Tackle Suicide Awareness Foundation at the CMHA, through the Funeral Home website."

Trent has a list of local services here to help those battling mental health issues.
