As a community, we know that Peterborough’s advanced manufacturing sector is an important part of our local economy. But do we really know (and celebrate) what was produced right here in Peterborough and the Kawarthas by our neighbours? Below are seven products that are proudly manufactured in our region...

1. The next time you find yourself bagging your groceries at a local grocery store, check out the checkout for a label that says PAN-OSTON. MADE IN CANADA. Retail store fixtures that evolve to the changing needs of Canadian retailers are made at Pan-Oston’s facility right here in Peterborough.

2. That large, green piece of equipment that you passed being towed along Highway 7/115 could be a trommel (used in construction and demolition, topsoil and waste recycling) and made in Otonabee-South Monaghan Township at McCloskey International.

3. One word: Muffets. What’s a muffet you ask? A natural, nostalgic, delicious breakfast cereal made only at the Peterborough location of Quaker-PepsiCo (the yummiest smelling factory in all of Canada).

4. Ever wonder how expensive, precision parts and products are shipped? General Electric (and others) rely on the solutions that Nefab manufacture in Peterborough.

5. World-class, award-winning rimfire rifles are produced at Savage Arms Canada in Lakefield, which employs 130 people.

6. Who creates innovative machinery and vessels to allow Ontario’s nuclear power facilities to adhere to environmental standards? Rolls-Royce Civil Nuclear in Peterborough does!

7. High tech instrumentation that allows for precision in a variety of industries from food and beverage to mining to oil and gas are created at Siemens Milltronics Process Instruments.

This region has a number of assets that make it a great place to startup and grow as an advanced manufacturing business.

It has world-class education facilities, including the Kawartha Trades & Technology Centre, which has embraced industry best practices all while being supported by the local manufacturing community.

Our region is also a strategic location—just far enough from the GTA to be a more affordable place to operate a business while being linked by highways, rail, air and technology infrastructure to clients, suppliers and customers in Southern Ontario and beyond.

We also have a supportive business ecosystem, including a strong supply chain and the Kawartha Manufacturers Association—as well as the talented labour force that makes up the Peterborough community.

Peterborough Economic Development asked local leaders in Peterborough’s Advanced Manufacturing sector about what makes the region a great place to operate. Here is what they had to say in the video below...
