Meet The Peterborough Go Club At Dreams of Beans Cafe
/I dropped in to Dreams of Beans Café when I heard that Peterborough has its own "Go" club to see what it was all about. Go, an ancient board game that originated in China more than 2,000 years ago, is played with black and white stones on a 19 X 19 grid. It has very simple rules, but when I asked about its complexity compared to chess, one of the weekly players, Steven, answered that "Chess is simple in comparison."
The Peterborough Go Club members gave me a walk-through of the basics of the game. The object of the game is to surround a larger portion of the board than your opponent. Placing stones close together helps them support each other and avoid capture.
Visit the Peterborough Go Club's website to learn more, or go on Thursday nights to Dreams of Beans Café from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. and give it a try. All newcomers are welcome, from seasoned veterans to rookies! Email the club's organizer, Dennis, if you would like further information.
