The Planet Bakery
Saturday, March 26, 2011
Peterborough is a town alive with interesting music, art and cultural events of all shapes and sizes. Lately, there has been a trend towards live bands playing in somewhat unconventional locations.
The front space at Bluestreak Records has hosted bands at least a couple times over the past year. Vintage clothing company Sympathy For The Rebel had a performance in its small but comfy space just a few weeks ago. Last night, before a filled dining room, three bands performed sets at downtown lunch staple Planet Bakery.
Fresh from an aesthetic makeover involving fresh paint and some new decor, Planet Bakery presented a night of live, local music in its dining room.
Three local bands were on the bill, playing before a packed room. Joe Fortin's project entitled Typewriter was first up, with a lovely, quiet set of songs from his forthcoming full length soon to be released. Also on the bill were vintage country band The Kindness Killers, presenting their take on classics from the golden age of country music. Closing out the night was renegade pop combo Tin Vespers.
It's shows such as this which leave one anticipating the next mix of music in a new, unsuspecting locale.
