The Overdose Crisis: Spotlight on Opioids, Sedatives & Stimulants

The ongoing overdose crisis in Canada has claimed the lives of over 40,000 people between 2016-2023. Parents and professionals working with youth need to know how to protect not only themselves, but also young people who are using or considering using opioids, stimulants or sedatives for any purpose.

This workshop examines opioids, sedatives and stimulants from a neutral lens, discussing their history, youth trends in use, effects, risks and harm reduction strategies. We will also explore conversation strategies and skills that adults can use to address risky substance use with young people in their lives.

This workshop is being presented by Steve Keller, B.Ed and Program Developer with Drug Free Kids Canada, in partnership with Peterborough Public Health.

Registration is required, but is free to attend. To Register, log into the City of Peterborough's Xplor Recreation system, and find this workshop using Course ID: 61004, or by searching within the LEARN Calendar, and under "Workshops".

This workshop will be located in the Banquet Room of the McDonnel Street Community Centre at 577 McDonnel Street. Light refreshments will be served.
