Black Women Empowerment - Past, Present and Future

Charmaine Magumbe is a Jamaican born, Zimbabwean Canadian who is a community activist, business owner, Zingha and mother of five and grandmother of three who resides in Peterborough. She is one of the leading voices in Race Relations in Peterborough.

In addition to her roles with Black Lives Matter and the Community Race Relations Committee of Peterborough, 2014- 2018. Charmaine has run for City Council also helps run events to fight the growing opioid crisis for PTBO Strong.
Charmaine has been active in planning various events in the Peterborough community at different venues from schools, parks and community centers. These events range from but limited too, Black Lives Matter rallies, a number of events for CRRC; Black History Month(BHM), Asian Month, Indigenous Heritage Month, International day for the Elimination of racism, to organizing the first ever Just Laugh Peterborough Comedy Festival.

She is past board member and staff at Jamaican Self-Help, present chairperson of Community Race Relations Committee of Peterborough (CRRC), past violin player in the Kawartha Community Orchestra, fiddler with the English Country dance, model and actor with Strutt Central Model in Peterborough.

Most recently Charmaine has been named the Woman of Influence in Peterborough for 2020. In 2017, she was the top 20 influential person in Peterborough. She is the 2017 YMCA Peace Medal recipient.
