HallowGreen Challenge

image-1080x600.png

Random Acts of Green’s “HallowGreen Challenge” aims to scare away eco-anxiety – and have a little fun. HallowGreen encourages people to think about the impact their day-to-day actions have on our planet and encourages them to move beyond “just recycling” by exploring new ways to be green.

Nearly 70% of Canadian adults celebrate Halloween (2014) and 3,924,041 Canadian children between the ages of 5-14 years old go trick-or-treating (2017) - but the COVID-19 pandemic has left many wondering how they can safely participate in spooky festivities this year.

Random Acts of Green’s virtual way to celebrate Halloween can build awareness and keep everyone engaged in climate action – like composting, air drying clothing, or refusing single-use plastics – while keeping people safe from the virus.

Both local and global green organizations (50+) are coming together to promote and participate in the online challenge including Plastic Free Toronto, The Peel Climate Council, Ottawa’s EnviroCentre and the Zero Waste Collective to name a few.

Random Acts of Green CEO, Jessica Correa, knows that fun challenges like this encourage and inspire people to take action.

“No matter which environmental problems gives you nightmares - food waste, plastics in the ocean, climate change, deforestation, biodiversity loss, pollution, water scarcity, or overpopulation,” notes Jessica Correa, CEO of Random Acts of Green, “they all demand the same thing: people acting together.”

“The HallowGreen challenge Random Acts of Green led last year was unique, innovative and creative. The Community Climate Council of Peel region, with its mandate to improve climate literacy found the challenge's fun approach to engage the community on sustainability compelling and engaging. – Areej Riaz, Research and Education Lead, Community Climate Council

Citizens, school boards, classrooms, offices and businesses are being encouraged to take the virtual HallowGreen Challenge during the month of October to inspire more people to take climate action. It offers a unique way to build awareness about things we can do for the planet, while also staying safe in uncertain times.
