To many people, mastering audio is seen as something as a “black art” that can only be done by a professional. While there's some truth to that, it is possible to learn how to master audio yourself, and mastering your podcast can go a long way to make sure that you have a consistent sound from episode to episode, and that each episode sounds as good as possible in every listening environment. Topics covered will include:
-Introduction to mastering: what is it, anyways, how is it done, and how will it benefit your podcast?
-Loudness and digital audio: what does “loudness” really mean in the digital world, how is it measured, and how loud should your podcast be?
-Critical listening for mastering: learn what to listen for when you're mastering a podcast, and how your audio software can help you do so objectively
-Developing a mastering workflow: save time by creating an effects chain you can reuse for mastering each new episode of your podcast
Participants should bring a laptop with Reaper pre-installed (free trial is fine), a set of high-quality headphones, and one or more episodes of a podcast to master. Arrangements can be made ahead of time if this is not possible.
Cost: $40, no one turned away for lack of funds
