PRHC Foundation Mombassadors Raise Amazing $115,504 For PRHC Babies In Need

The Peterborough Regional Health Centre (PRHC) Foundation Mombassadors, a group of local mothers inspired by their own children's experiences at PRHC, presented PRHC Foundation with a cheque for $115,504 to purchase lifesaving equipment for PRHC’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).

"The PRHC Foundation Mombassadors took on a huge goal in only our second year of $102,000," says the group's 2019 chair Marcy D'Alessandro. "We were motivated by the continuous stories that parents would tell us of their babies using the very equipment we were trying to replace. We constantly heard about the wonderful staff of the NICU. We know without their unwavering drive for excellence in care, the community would not be so receptive in helping us achieve our ambitious goal."

After receiving a matching donation of $32,000 from the Liftlock Atom Hockey Tournament in the spring, the group adjusted their original target of $70,000 to be bigger and bolder.

"The partnership of the Liftlock Atom Hockey Tournament was a game-changer for our campaign this year," adds Sarah McDougall Perrin, who founded Mombassadors along with her sister Erin Marshall. "The support of these incredible community partners allowed us to dream bigger, to surpass $100,000 this year and together make a greater impact."

Over 1,600 babies are born at PRHC each year, and the Mombassadors’ 2019 fundraising target was designed to fund a new ventilator and a radiant heater/warmer for those babies who need extra support after birth. Through the group’s successful fundraising efforts, they will be able to fund both pieces of equipment for the hospital.

Local Moms Join Forces As Mombassadors To Help The PRHC Foundation

Thirteen local women announced on Tuesday (April 10th) that they have come together to form the PRHC Foundation Mombassadors—a dynamic group of entrepreneurs and professionals who have put their drive, creativity and passion to raise funds for the PRHC Foundation.

Their goal is to help make their hospital even better as a way of saying thanks for the great care they received while giving birth to their children at PRHC. By contributing their energy and talents toward creative fundraising activities, the PRHC Foundation Mombassadors have come together to make a difference—for you, your family, your friends, and for all those who visit PRHC.

The Mombassadors

The PRHC Foundation Mombassadors have a number of initiatives planned, including their signature event: Girls Night Out on Thursday, May 10th—an age of majority, ladies only evening of dancing, live and DJ entertainment, delicious food, drinks, socializing, and more.

Proceeds will be allocated to a new Electronic Fetal Monitor for the Labour and Delivery Unit at PRHC that is vital to moms and babies during the birthing process, and ensures early detection of any sign of distress during labour.

PRHC Foundation Receives $1 Million Pledge From McCloskey International

The PRHC Foundation has announced a pledged gift of $1 million from McCloskey International in support of outstanding patient care for children and babies at Peterborough Regional Health Centre (PRHC).

The announcement was made at the Greenbridge Celtic Folk Festival hosted by internationally‐renowned musicians Natalie MacMaster and Donnell Leahy, and held this weekend on the McCloskey family property in Keene near Peterborough.

Paschal McCloskey, McCloskey International founder and president, says the visionary gift represents both an investment in the Children & Babies Program at PRHC, and in the Foundation’s legacy program outreach:

“The thought of a baby or a child requiring hospital care is heartbreaking, especially when it means seeking specialized treatment outside our community,” says McCloskey. “Not only can the costs add up quickly, but the emotional toll of being separated from family support systems can be devastating. McCloskey International is committed to investing in innovative technologies that support care for PRHC’s most fragile patients and their families close to home, where and when they need it most.”

“With their support of critical lifesaving equipment, as well as investing in the Foundation’s ability to raise funds for the future through our legacy giving program, McCloskey International is truly transforming care, both today and tomorrow,” says PRHC Foundation CEO Lesley Heighway.
